Another possible trade with Philly

i would definitly bring him in, only problem is he is gonna command a lot of money, they were saying damien woody type money

Welbourn wants way too much money. If he backs down from those demands, then we can consider it. But we got Jeno James for, what, half that? And James is just as good.

yeah, but Welhourn is only supposed to make like 7.3 mill over the next 5 years! That's not much at only 1.46 mill/year. We're 5 mill under right now and have more 'cap' room then most teams so if he's looking to make more then 1.4 mill/year I'd think we'd be a pretty good fit for him as 1) we are in the market for a G/T and 2) we have more cap room then most teams. Compared to other teams that 1) don't need a tackle and those that do generally have less cap space then us.......we should wind up being one of the top contenders, especially with Feeley around to give him a warm & fuzzy feeling.

I'm not jumping all over this and of course I don't think we'll give him Woody money if we do go after him (i'd think only the Vikings and maybe 1-2 other teams are THAT far under the cap at this point in the offseason), however he would definitely fill a spot for us. If we can get him more $ then he's making now I'd say we have a good shot at him if the FO wants to pursue him.

Is that pic of Boston real? I know he's suppose to be jacked but it looks kinda fake.

Welhourn is seriously overrating his worth. He signed a 8 year, 25 million dollar contract a couple years ago, and probably would have lost his job this spring to hicks.

I pulled this article off the EMB. Its just after he signed his contract.

BETHLEHEM, Pa.

Eagles starting left guard John Welbourn, who overcame a major knee injury as a rookie in 1999, signed an eight- year, $25 million contract extension, including a $3 million signing bonus Friday.

The entire offensive line except center Bubba Miller is signed for at least the next four seasons. Miller can be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

It is very exciting for myself and the backfield to know he will be around for awhile,'' quarterback Donovan McNabb said about Welbourn at the team's training camp at Lehigh University. ``Now we have four out of five guys upfront secure, hopefully we'll have all five soon.''

Welbourn, a fourth-round draft pick out of the University of California, suffered a torn patella tendon in his left knee in the first quarter of the season opener against Arizona as a rookie and was lost for the season.

The 6-foot-5, 318-pound Welbourn bounced back and won the starting left guard job last summer after the Eagles signed Jon Runyan to play right tackle.

Never in my wildest dreams,'' Welbourn said when asked if he thought about a long-term deal this time last summer. ``I was just hoping to come out here last year and make the team.''

Welbourn and left tackle Tra Thomas are signed through 2008.

Playing along side Tra is great, he is a phenomenal player,'' Welbourn said. ``He only makes me look good.''

He's making a big stink about wanting other contract, and it won't happen in Philly, and I can't see anyone paying what he wants. I don't know if Philly would trade him under market value, and doubt they'd release him. I do think they would deactivate him for the year though if he becomes a distraction.

I can see redoing his deal but not for what he wants, unless he wants to do a McIntosh type deal where his salary is very back loaded. This protects us in case he flops but I dont think he is worth a 10 million dollar signing bonus. How about another 3 million bonus divided over a six year deal with a base of 3 million a season. Manning will be in the 10-12 million dollar bonus range as the #1 overall. That being said I would love to see the Eagles move him and their 28th for our 20th. We would then have a proven G and that leaves us wide open to take BPA at 28. What if we added Clayton at 28....... sorry drooling there for a min. Sean Jones is also a very good candidate there.

He has missed time the last 2 seasons with and injury that has cost him 8 games, plus full season in his rookie year.

I believe he is not even close to the money his is asking. He may be as good as Woody, but just because Detriot over paid, does not mean everyone else will. And what good are you if you are always breaking down.

He will never see that type money until he proves he can stay on the field.

Thanks to all of you guys for the info....

No beter place to go than Finheaven to get the goods on a player!!

hell, sign him to a 3 year 9mill deal with 5 mill signing monus over the 3 yrs. That'd give him twice as much money in only 60% of the time (3 yrs vs. 5). I think we'll have enough money next year after a few other players go (i'm thinking seau and possibly madison) to help resign CC and McMichael. We've got cap.....but I only see it going t

1) CC
2) McMichael
3) Ogun
4) another FA Oline guy
5) signing bonus for 1st round player

CC & McMichael are set for the upcoming year and we won't be drafting high enough to need the signing bonus for a $20 pick.....so....the FO better go after this Welhourne guy (sp?) or tie up one of the above 3 players......and do it soon.

Philly would have traded Welbourn for Madison in a New York minute.

Welbourne is good... he is a versataile player and he was named breakthrough offensive player of the year 2003... i dont kno too much about the money part

bring his yearly salary to 2 million a season and then remove seasons 2007 and 2008 from his contract. this puts more money in his pocket and 2 years sooner he can test f.a. waters.
