No matter where I go, there I am.
No WR's, and no DE's taken in any rounds. Not even throw away 7th rounders. That tells me that Rick thinks he has the money to keep the players we have and that says that Chambers and Ogun get extended/signed. I'm guessing that Ogun and Chambers weren't addressed up to now because the FO couldn't be sure that they would get their guy in the draft and might have needed the money for a free agent starter on the line. Now that they have him they know how much money they have to spend. Work out long term deals with heavy/split signing bonus' and those two guys are locked up for the next 5 years.

I see it a bit differently: I see it meaning that we're going to be extending Chambers and McMichael when the time comes and throwing enough money on the tender for this year to get Wale to play every game. I just don't see signing Wale being possible, but I hope I am wrong about it.

Sorry I do not see any reason to break the bank for OGUN. Chicago thought he was not worth the 14th pick in the draft. Why should he be paid more than that slot. Gee which most likely is around the 1.8 million a year tender he already has been offered.

Remember OGUN is an injury risk and only 255lbs playing DLE.

Mr. Fan,

The Bears thought nothing of the sort. They reportedly didn't mind even the 1st/3rd as much as they did the picks AND the Wistrom-like deal that Wale wants. He would have been no use to the Bears for the 6 games he would likely play if they actually tried to get him to accept just the tender price of $1.8 million.

Wale will get his Wistrom-like deal unless he chooses to give us a discount or something freakish like an injury happens. He's just going to have to wait until next offseason for that haul to come in.

The fact that we didn't go after any WRs makes me think that we are going to extend Chambers.

As for Ogunleye, we do have some solid backups at DE. I think we will try to resign him, but with Rosenhaus as his agent that will be very difficult. I hope we can reach an agreement with him.

Jimmy,

I am just not sold on OGUN being a premier player (good player yes but not premier). Too many "other" players have done very well from his position in the dolphin scheme. Plus too many times I watched him singled up on a the RT. He should win against a RT with a singled up opportunity.

I am completely unconcerned if he plays for the dolphins again except if his contract precludes the opportunity to find a real difference maker.

Also check the tape on run plays......its not a pretty sight when he has to drop his butt to anchor.

David Bowens should prove to be an interesting option (should he stay away from ladders this year  ). I am also interested to see Grigsby this year.

Oh, don't get me wrong -- I'm not as solid on Wale as many here are. I am willing to lose him, though I do hope we get something out of him. I wouldn't totally rule out a trade for next year's picks in this post-draft period if somebody really missed out on DE, either.

I firmly do believe that Wale will get what he wants in a contract, though. That's just how the NFL works. The Vikings are scared of our non-Taylor DEs, but that leaves 30 teams for him to go to...somebody will make him a very rich man.

I like Ogun alot. But his success probably has something to do with JT being on the other side. Ogun is good but I think he and his agent are over pricing themselves.

I like Ogun, but hes DEFINATELY not worth Wistrom type $$$. If he refuses to play for the tender, thats his problem...hes just costing himself a boatload of $$ next yr. I'd be fine with Bowens n Grigsby rotating there.

Wale has not been injured at all since tearing up that knee at Indiana in 1999. Plus, Jason Taylor goes 255 at best. And he doesn't miss any time at all.

Wale deserves that big money. I hope we can give it to him soon.

It's not that Wale isn't worth Wistrom money. It's that Wistrom isn't worth Wistrom money. Wale is worth far more than Wistrom. Wistrom got far more than even HE was asking for. And because of Seattle's premature ejac....agreeing on a contract, the DE market is all screwed up.

Considering the contract Todd Wade received I may just have no choice but to run up the white flag :shakeno:

10 million for a RT who was ok in run blocking and god awful in pass protection.

I don't understand why everybody slams Seattle when the real problem IMHO is the contract the Eagles gave Kearse. I know I professed my love for that organization, and I'm not contradicting myself here. I think they know they overpaid him and may have actually done so just to skew the market because they knew other teams like the Redskins who needed help would get burned as a result. That's the power that a team with huge cap space has...

I agree with Muck here. I can't believe people keep on giving JT all the credit for what Ogun has done. Ask Ogun and JT and they will both tell you that they benefit from the DT's a lot more than from each other. Enough with the JT makes Ogun an all pro. Ogun's an all pro cos he's that good.

Ozzy rules!!

Ogunleye will be signed to a long term deal. The fact that Drew is his agent actually helps Miami. Miami and Drew have a great relationship. Rick even commented on this about one of the draft picks, saying that it is a positive that Drew is his agent.

Miami is currently in the process of working on contract extensions for Sammy Knight and Patrick Surtain to create enough room to get both Ogunleye and Chambers signed to a long term deal this summer. They will deal with Randy McMichael next year, when they can trim some more money off their cap in the way of Jay Fiedler and Junior Seau. Randy McMichael isn't going to push anything this year. Miami has a much better option behind him in Donald Lee than they have at the receiver and defensive end positions.

Ogunleye will get a contract in the $42 million range over 6 years, and he's more than worth it.
