How is everone feeling out there right now about our team? I know its not the start we all wanted to see....but there is still plenty of time before we line up against the TITANS. Yes....I was out there for all the practices for mini-camp...but not any QB School 1's, and there are some things I want to pass along....

The most alarming situation right now is obviously DAVID BOSTON, and his attitude. What has this guy been doing for the last 7 weeks he has been in South Florida, about getting down from his 240 pound frame...just quite frankly taking his 90 plus supplements a day, looking to just add more and more muscularity per day...instead of really focusing on the one thing he should be doing...and that is TONING the MUSCLE weight down. This is a guy who has only 6 percent body fat..there is not much fat if any there left to lose..and in fact---team doctors and trainers will say that a player is at risk playing in football related conditions with a body fat count that is in the 3 percent range. The math is simple for the weight loss...he needs to lose 15 pounds someway somehow...to get to 225, even 230 would be ok--but for BOSTON to do it...he has to do it in a way he really does not want to adhere to---and that is to LOSE MUSCLE. In a nutshell...its his ego that is getting in the way for his weight to go down, and the Dolphins coaches are starting to get antsy with the overall WR situation now, since they are counting so heavily on BOSTON to help this offense...but already they are seeing signs that this guy just may not be someone they can truly count on. At 6-1, he does not carry that weight efficeiently for a WR...he is just too damn bulky, and now with the shin injury, it all adds up to right now...a very undproductive Wide Receiver. Boston does indeed need to show the coaches that he means business and wants to get back to the form he showed in 2001. Whatever he looked like back in that season..he needs to look at those pictures and set back his physique to that muscular structure. I actually will praise Wanny to set the record straight and send the messege early to BOSTON....you first need to show us that you can practice...you also need to show us you can play at a high level...and third...you will not start for this team at 240 pounds. Like I said... If Boston will first lose his ego...then the muscle will follow. Its the only way he can get to 230 pounds or below. Based on his performance at the next Qb School....the DOlphins will really be able to know if they need to pick up another veteran wide receiver, which I think they must do anyway. At the very least---BOSTON better be out there practicing...or this situation will really take on a boiling point. There is already rumblings in the inner circle of reporters that Dolphin strength coach John GAMBLE and BOSTON have argued already over what supplements Boston continues to take...even though it is all legal over-counter nutrients. Gamble has a plan for all the players...strength and diet nutrition...included....and its obvious that Boston has his own plan as well. Also...in the last practice...It was DAVID BOSTON who was the LAST PLAYER who browsed in on a team meeting that WANNSTEDT had called when practice ended in the middle of the field. Reporters noticed BOSTON not even beating a crutch-ridden DAMIEN Mcintosh to the middle of the field, listenting to what Wannstedt was starting to say. By the time BOSTON arrived to the kneel down huddle with the rest of his teammates...WAnnstedt was just about finished on what he had to say to the team. 10 minutes with the media later....WANNSTEDT was ready to send the message to BOSTON...and did it STAN VAN GUNDY style for a change...candid and right to the point.

I will post more later...but here is my top 10 performers at camp so far...and the biggest disappointments so far.

Best Camp Perfromers

1. Chris Chambers 2. JENO JAMES 3. JASON TAYLOR 4. JUNIOR SEAU...FANTASTIC SHAPE 5. FRED RUSSELL 6. CHRIS AKINS 7. VERNON CAREY 8. DONALD LEE 9. WILL POOLE 10. SAMMY MORRIS

WORST CAMP PERFORMERS
1. DAVID BOSTON 2. TIM "DUMBO" BOWENS (FAT) 3. AJ FEELY 4. TONY PAPE 5. WADE SMITH (IF HURT WHY PRACTICE) 6. OFFENSIVE LINE MINUS JAMES AND CAREY 7. RECEIVERS OVERALL PERFORMANCES...NOBODY YET SEPERATING THEMSELVES...INLCUDING MINNIS. ONLY 1 WR SEPERATED HIMSELF...CHAMBERS. 8. DAVID BOWENS AND JAY WILLIAMS WERE VERY SILENT IN MY VIEW....OGUN MISSED HERE.
9. EDDIE MOORE...STILL CANT PRACTICE YET! 10. WINSTON TAYLOR, LB WHO CARES..SLOW AS MOLASSES.

SLEEPERS... RB FRED RUSSELL TE/ST JOHN JONES OTIS GRISBY

MOST ALARMING CONCERN NEXT TO BOSTON.....THE SLOW START AND CAMP THAT AJ FEELY HAS HAD....GRANTED IT IS EARLY...BUT PLAYERS ARE ALREADY GETTING CONCERNED ABOUT FEELY BEING ANY IF ALL...AN UPGRADE OVER JAY FIEDLER. HE HAS NOT SHOWN MUCH...HE HAS THE BETTER ARM THAT IS CERTAIN...BUT FEELY HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT ERRATIC THUS FAR. HE JUST HAS TO GET BETTER..AND LETS LEAVE IT AT THAT.

AND LAST....WILL THE OFFENSIVE LINE COME TOGETHER IN TIME? ITS A OYUNG AND NEW GROUP WITH 4 NEW STARTERS. JENO JAMES HAS SHINED BUT WADE SMITH HAS NO ANSWER FOR JASON TAYLOR...AND I MEAN NONE AT ALL. WHAT MAKES ANYONE CONFIDENT AT LT, RG, AN UNDERSIZED CENTER, AND A STRONG BUT INEXPERIENCED ROOKIE AT RT. CAREY WILL BE A VERY GOOD PLAYER FOR US...BUT HE WILL TAKE HIS LUMPS IN HIS FIRST YEAR? I JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS OFFENSIVE LINE RIGHT NOW...AND HOW GOOD CAN THIS LINE ACTUALLY BE WHEN SEPTEMBER COMES.

IT IS OBVIOUS TO ALL....THAT RICK SPIELMAN WAS AT EACH AND EVERY PRACTICE....TAKING NOTES... AND IT APPEARS HIS WORK WITH THIS TEAM IS STILL NOT COMPLETE. I LOOK FOR THE DOLPHINS TO SCAN THE WAIVER WIRE LIST ON JUNE 1ST....AND SEE IF THEY CAN STILL ADD TO THE WR MIX,,,THE OL MIX...AND EVEN POSSIBLY...THE QB MIX IF THE RIGHT VETERAN BECAME AVAILABLE.

BERNIE KOSAR HAS OFFICALLY BEEN INTERVIEWED BY EDDIE JONES FOR THAT MARINO-VACATED FRONT OFFICE POSITION...

DREW ROSENHAUS HAS HAD POSITIVE CONVERSATIONS LATELY WITH THE DOLPHINS ABOUT GETTING SOMETHING DONE VERY SOON FOR OGUN...BUT THEY WANT TO SET THERE PARAMETERS FIRST WITH ALL THE DRAFT CHOICES. SPIELMAN HAS TOLD DREW THAT THEY WILL GET TO OGUN...THEY WANT HIM...BUT AGAIN...SPEILMAN HAS TOLD DREW TO GET OGUN TO SIGN THE 1.8 TENDER...AND COME IN TO CAMP..THEN THINGS WILL SOON GET GOING.

I CAN TELL YOU THAT NO ONE PERSON OUTSIDE DREW HIMSELF AND SEAN TAYLOR CAN TELL ANYONE WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT COMPLETE BLOWUP AND NO DOUBT---THIS IS AN EMBARRASSING MOMENT FOR DREW AND HIS BROTHER.... I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT DREW WILL TALK NOTHING ON THAT SUBJECT THIS SUNDAY.....INSTEAD HE WILL FOCUS IN ON ANOTHER CLIENT....WILL POOLE...WHO GOT OUT FASTER FROM A JAIL CELL THAN ANYONE IN RECENT DUI CHARGE MEMORY. THIS KID CAN PLAY..HE WILL BE THE DIME BACK THIS YEAR. I CAN TELL YOU GUYS THIS....OGUN WANTS TO GET GOING WITH THIS SITUATION...HE IS GETTING FRUSTRATED...AT DREW TOO...BUT THERE WILL BE NO SEAN TAYLOR FIRING HERE. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS SITUATION LEADS TO OGUN SOON SIGNING THE GOD DARN TENDER...THEN....IF HE GOES IN THERE AND THE DOLPHIN BRASS DOES NOTHING WITH HIS CONTRACT STATUS...THEN OGUN WALKS OUT AND THEN HE HE CAN SAY TO HIS TEAMMATES AND THE FANS AS WELL....THAT HE DID HIS PART. HOLDING OUT DOES OGUN NO GOOD AT ALL...AT THIS POINT IN TIME....IT REALLY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE ANYMORE. THE POINT HAS ALREADY BEEN DULY NOTED...HE WANTS A LONG TERM DEAL...BUT FOR NOW...CAN'T YOU LIVE ON 1.8 MILLION OGUN?

:welcome: back DCH

A nice analogy for you....

Mel Kiper is to the NFL Draft as DCH is to the Dolphins Pre-season ;)

Quick Question DCH. I noticed you mentioned Vernon Carey as a top perfromer. I was under the impression that that he is not allowed to participate until after classes. Are classes done for the semester at the U of Miami? If not, could you please clear up the confusion? Thank you......

They should be, i know UM ends about a week after us here at UCF....he should be clear to go....

Baz come on AIM sometime and chat it up man, you've been a freaking hermit ;)

I Was Not At The Qb Schools...carey Was Not There Either.

No Doubt....carey Was Not A Particiapant At The Qb Schools...and I Did Not Make Those Practices Either. I Was At The Mini-camp Practices Only...the Entire Squad Minus Ogun Was Present..

At One Practice I Was Standing Alog The Fence With Vernons Dad...vince, Who Was Very Obvious Wearing Carey's Um Jersey With The #60 And On The Back It Said "dad" On The Back As Well. His Dad Said To Me That Vernon Plays His Best When He Has A Reason To Be Mad. The Dolphins Asked Art Kehoe At Um If Carey Was Tough Enough...and Kehoe Said The Same Thing...you Need To Get Him Mean...there Is No Doubt That Tony Wise Will Be Screaming And Blowing His Whistle At Carey For Maybe Not Even A Reason At All...just To Make Him Mad. Carey In Real Life....is Just A Gentle Giant Of A Kid...he Will Give You His Time If You Ask Him To Talk. Hey....this Was A Very Good Pick For Us...he Will Start Immediately...but Really...does Anyone Out There Expect Him To Be A Pro Bowl Type Of Player His First Year? I Believe Carey Will Be On A Level This Year Where Todd Wade Will Not Be Missed....but To Say He Will Not Make Rookie Mistakes And Be Exposed In Light Of What Wade Smith Went Through Last Year...it Can And Probably Will Happen In Year 1. But How About In Year 2 Or 3...when He Really Develops....he Is Going To Be Here For A Long Time....but Again...were Throwing Him Right Into The Fire...and Here We Are Hoping That He Is This Years Version Of Jordan Gross. But I Think He Will Play Rt And Play Well Right From The Start. Actually...i Am More Concerned With Wade Smith In Year 2 Than I Am With Vernon Carey In Year 1 If You Get What I Am Saying. I Don't Know Anyone I Have Talked To Is Sold On Wade Smith Getting Better Than Last Seasons Performance As Of Right Now. Don't Think That Just Gaining 15 Pounds Will Do The Trick, This Off-season. We Won't Know Until Pre-season Whether Or Not He Will Be Ok...because If You Go To Any Practice...you Will See #99 Over And Over Again...its A Joke On How Bad Jt Makes This Guy Look...ask Anyone Who Goes...its At A Point Now Where Wanny Should Let Someone Else Other Than Taylor Line Up Opposite Smith...just So The Kid Can Get Some Kind Of Confidence Going. Hearing Wannstedt Say...jason Is Not That Good...kiddingly Saying It...and Then Saying That Wade Smith Has A Hamstring Problem Was Really A Cop-out. Its No Contest Out There...jason Can Beat Smith 99 Out Of 100 Times From Where I Sit. Im Concerned....not Because He Can't Manage Jt....i Am Just Concerned That This Guy Is Nothing More Than A Backup Player In This League. And Who Is The Backup At Lt By The Way? It Is Unbelievable To Me That We Could Have Here A Jeno James And A Vernon Carey, And A Pray For Everyone Else With Concern To The Rest Of The Line. If This Line Fails...so Does This Offense...and Its Goodbye Coaches If We Don't Make The Playoffs This Year..and I Mean Everybody. This Line Is The Key To The Season...and I Am Not Sure If This Line Can Get It Done...as It Stands Right Now. And I Don't Have The Answer Either On How To Improve It Until I See Who Can Help Us Come June 1st. But We Need More Than The Great Tandem Of Whitley/jerman Working At Rg...and Nobody Is That High On St. Clair Right Now Either. This Will Be Tony Wise...working Under The Most Pressure This Season Than Any Other. All Eyes Are On That Offensive Line..how Many Teams Have 4 New Starters Right Now? That Is Not An Easy Task..and Jeno James Is The Only Sure Thing Right Now. That Is The Way Is See It...i Just Don't Know If These Guys Can Come Together In Time...

Thanks for your report. Your perspective oin the Oline is the most troubling. I hope your comments prove just to be cautionary and not prophetic.

I completely disagree about Wade Smith - he is developing into an excellent player. I have NO concerns about his talent. To me - and a lot of people within the league - he should be pushing for Pro Bowl honours down the road. The guy has great feet, an excellent kick slide and good, good hands. He is absolutely a solid prospect at T. In terms of who our back up LT is, it wouldn't surprise me to see James slide over to LT until McIntosh is ready, as he played T at both Auburn and at Carolina.

Two things to think about....
Little contact and a DE that 99% of the tackles in the league would have problems with...Can you imagine how fast he must be in shorts and no pads...c'mon..who's going to look good against JT in the first camp???

Also, and I'm assuming here, I don't believe that Smith is trying to block JT like a game is on the line... he may be working on something specific, like footwork or postitioning which we would have no clue about but, would appear to the layman's eyes like something was wrong with him...:dunno:

Exactly Infins - the DE has the advantage, ESPECIALLY as they are playing in shells and Smith is allowed virtually no contact. Like JT said, anyone call make the All Davie Team in May. I could care less how our LT looks at this part of the year. What I KNOW is that the guy possesses as big an upside as anyone on this entire team in terms of what he can achieve and that he flashed excellent skills at times last year. Yes there were some rookie errors, but geez Louise, the guy was a year and a half away from playing at TE for Memphis. He's taken giant steps. Him and Jeno James - a guy I urged us to pick up coming into the 2003 season as a FA - give us a very solid left side and by years end, 99.9% of people on this site will be saying that these 2 are one of the great strengths of the team.

OK heres whats bothering me, which is people already disregaurding Feeley. Granted its early and he has time to learn but be honest with yourselves he is coming into a whole new world of an offense. He has to swallow alot in a short amount of time and for a human-being thats pretty dang tuff. Practice will always make perfection. Im saying this now and I might be swallowing my words back up later but guarenteed, I think A.J Feeley will perform so much better at the next set of Quarterback schools then the previous mini camp and schools. I think now that he has made his share of mistakes with Fiedler (who was'nt perfect in camp and should of been considering he was the 4 yr starter) will step up and perform alot better then his first.

Notice the size of these linemen:

Smith -- 315 lbs (Will probably be 320 lbs by training camp)
James -- 310 lbs
McKinney -- 305 lbs
Whitely -- 320 lbs
Carey -- 335 lbs
St. Clair -- 320 lbs
McIntosh -- 325 lbs

Looks to me like Tony Wise is going to go back to the zone blocking scheme that coached while with the Cowboys. These linemen are big, big guys who will be able to straight up power block the guy across from them. I see this team doing a lot more zone running this season with Ricky.

W. Smith

:shakeno: One thing is to read the papers, read the player profiles another is to be at the practice and notice the little things. I was at the all the camps . I know we have a real legitame concern here. W. Smith just does not look good right now. Perhaps in the future . Some things come natural to great ball players . This is not the case here. Many of the fans at the camps express the same concern. If he does not dramatically improve in a game situation, he could get hurt and the team.

Well if the rumors about Boston are true then it doesen't really suprise me, but it is starting to make me sick of the Fins being the homeless shelter for troubled and old players, Boston, Phillips, Carter, Collins....ect. It's early so I'm not too concerned, as far as Feely goes, if Trestman can't get this kid to perform than it wasn't meant to be, honestly we all know there is a huge % that this kid is nothing more than a backup QB.

Can you guys imagine the heads that will roll if both Boston and Feely fail to perform for this team? :nono:

I'm not disagreeing with your theory but, it seems to me that those are all about average size for linemen nowadays.
