Bernie Parmalee Coaching Te's? I Dont Get That Move...

Is ME a psychological, physical, or mixed sort of condition? I have heard of chronic fatigue, but I had no idea what its medical name was. Thanks for the info.

It basically saps your strength. One of my old presenters when I worked in TV, her daughter had it for a few years. You can't really do anything, you are sore, you can't move usually without aid, you just feel exhausted all the t ime. I'm no expert, but during the time when the aforementioned girl was ill, there was some talk about it being a mix of the 2. I think something like 80% of people make pretty full recoveries, it just can knock you silly for a year or so for no known reason. But like Joel, it comes on slow and then gradually takes hold.

For a while in England it was nicknames "Yuppie Stress". Yuppie was an 80's, early 90's term to describe young, high earning professionals who burnt the candle at both ends, usually working in the financial industry in the city, cutting huge deals, etc, but getting burnt out basically by about 25 because their lives were just constant stress, pressure, etc. Thus it was dubbed Yuppie Stress or Yuppie Flu because these people would just suddenly be out of the race for 12/18 months and it turned out to be ME. From something in one of the papers about Joel being tired and stressed, I just thought this could be something he has.

You just defined Yuppie for us...

Honestly, that was a good move. I guess I'm kind of an old fogey because I remember that term and have actually seen films like Wall Street....

You gotta be kidding me...

I personally thought that Mark Trestman would serve the role as both the Qb coach...and also overlook the Te's.

If we learned anything last year, it's that we're better served with at least one position coach for each position than have one position coach try and coach two groups. Our qb play partially suffered last year as a result of not having a designated QB caoch, rather we had NT moonlighting as OC and QB coach and that didn't work out at all.

Be it BP or someone they bring off the street, That's a much better option than having the Trestmen take time from the QB's to coach the TE's and vise versa. It's obvious that with our current QB situation, they need all they coaching they can get.

I'll just state what Sylvester Croom stated when he was forming his coaching staff at Mississippi State.

"If you can coach, you can coach any position on the field."

Sylvester Croom was an All-American center at Alabama. When he graduated and had a cup of water with the Saints in the NFL, he was asked to come back to Alabama as an assistant coach. Alabama had a young center at that time named Dwight Stephenson. Sylvester Croom just knew he would get a chance to coach him. When Bear Bryant made his coaching assignments, what position was Sylvester Croom coaching? Linebackers.

Dave Wannstedt was an offensive lineman in college that became a defensive coach.

Let's not put too much stock in this because it provides an excellent rationale for the argument that Parmalee could switch to WR or QB coach if he's good enough to be the TE coach (meaning we could have had a veteran OC). I don't quite think Croom is right about it -- you have to get to know the position to a certain extent. It's not rocket science to figure out that RB to TE is not quite as big a step as RB to QB or RB to WR is. Bernie is going to work out just fine, and he has the ability to ask our OC for help if he has questions.

And look at Croom. He was a great center. And he ended up as offensive coordinator for the explosive Lions. In 1997, Barry Sanders got 2000 yards....AND Herman Moore and Johnnie Morton broke 1000 yards. David Sloan went to the Pro Bowl one year. And Germaine Crowell had his best years under Croom.

When Croom was RBs coach for San Diego, Natrone Means blew up and they went to the Super Bowl.

Again, this guy was an offensive lineman. After 4 years of coaching WRs at USC, Norv Turner moved to coaching DBs. And in that one year (1980) he coached DBs, he produced Ronnie Lott and Dennis Smith (who were #1 picks in 1981).

And as someone mentioned before, perhaps the best example is Doug Blevins. The guy has never walked a day in his life. And he's produced Olindo Mare and Adam Vinatieri.

Not to mention...

Bernie will be fine - he understands the fundamentals of football. He knows about blocking. He always had beautiful hands. He knows about running routes. He played a sort of hybrid H-Back when he was a player with us. He's also very well thought of, not only in Miami. The guy will be a co-ordinator down the line.

Collier I assume may have something like ME or maybe even a cancer scare. I hope that as Dolfans we come together and hope he's better rather than assuming there's some sort of behind the scenes situation.

Finally, being an offense lover, I know Foerster's work well - he worked in tandem with Denny Green in Minnesota when the Vikes had the league's number one offense and he was key in Indy's offense with Tom Moore. Moore and Dungy think he's a stud coach and he was responsible for Marcus Pollard being one of the league's best. The philosophy of the offense isn't going to change at all - we will still air it out, we will still run it hard. I don't see any problem here, especially as we have Trestman and Sullivan on board. It's all good.

...one of Foerster's specialties is the TE postion. I am sure he will be mentoring in a way, the young Parmale, the finer art of being an effective TE coach. As OC, Foerster will have his hand on the pulse of every of every offensive position squad and coach.
