Ask Brett Tessler

I usually would agree with college coaches, I certainly did not want us to go after Spurrier, that would have been disasterous IMO. But, I will say, I have liked LSU's Saban for some time, and I may be wrong, but I really think this guy could make the transition and be a very good coach in the NFL. He's very defensive minded, but he also believes in an offensive game plan and structure, something I think was Wanny's big downfall.

Brett,
From talking to players and contacts around the league, who in your opinion is the best HC in the NFL today ?
From an X's and O's standpoint I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anybody better than Bill Belichick. The top motivators that come to mind are Jeff Fisher, Bill Cowher, Herman Edwards, and Brian Billick. However, the best of them all is Bill Parcells who I believe is the greatest head coach in the history of professional sports.

Everything I hear about Charlie Weis is that even though he's a great O-coordinator, he lacks the personality to be a head coach.

This speaks to what a lot of detractors are saying. I personally am not a fan of Weis as our HC.

Personality-wise, how does he compare to Andy Reid??

Hey everybody, thanks for the warm welcome! I'll be getting around to answering most of your questions. The best way is to ask them here instead of private messaging me because this is where I will be checking in regularly. Thanks again.
Hey Brett,

How much stock do personnelmen of the NFL put into those wonderlic tests and how much can they raise or drop a prospect on draft day in the eyes of a team?

Andy Reid has a low-key personality, while Charlie Weis is known as being overly sensitive.

Some of it depends on the position of the player. For a defensive end it might not make as much difference as it would for a quarterback or offensive lineman. Usually talent and ability are the main factors in determining a player's draft grade. The Wonderlic only becomes an issue if a player scores ridiculously low.

Hey Brett,

Do you think it would be a mistake (or could even happen) for the Dolphins to trade the following players to the Raiders:

Marty Booker & Ricky Williams

for

Jake Grove (Center~VT), 1st Round Pick & 4th Round this year. Mabye even a pick for next season that could turn into a 1st. Based on Ricky's performance & drug screening.

If the trade did happen....

Phins Draft: Who would you draft with the TOP PICK?
1st Round ~ Mike Williams (WR)
or
1st Round ~ Antrell Rolle (CB)

They would have (2) 1st rounders. They could trade down a couple of slots and take either one of the above players if they are still on the board. Then use the other to trade down again for more picks or draft Amhad Brooks (LB UVA ~ Zach is getting up there in age...it would be nice to see them groom someone to take over for him after he retires....UNLIKE when Dan Marino retired!) or OL.

ALSO GOOD LUCK with the SIGNING of NEW PLAYERS after the SEASON. I hope you land some of the following players. I think they are going to be special....$$$ for you.

1) Mike Williams
2) Antrell Rolle
3) Amhad Brooks
4) Big "E" ...aka lol Elton Brown. More people know him from his nickname. ;)
5) Aaron Rogers

any thoughts on Grimm? I bet he could re-establish the run!
He would definitely bring an attitude to the offensive line, but it's pretty unusual for a position coach to become a head coach without any prior experience as a coordinator.

Brett -

With your insight to the NFL, can your provide any possilbe reasons why Jim Bates shouldn't be considered a H/C candidate?

What does he lack compared to the other coordinators who are Head Coach candidates?

Hey Brett, how is Trent doing?
Trent's doing well... Just rehabbing and getting ready for next season. On the side he's been helping his high school football team as an assistant special teams coach. I'll let him know you guys send your regards.
