Hey Brett,

Do you think it would be a mistake (or could even happen) for the Dolphins to trade the following players to the Raiders:

Marty Booker & Ricky Williams

for

Jake Grove (Center~VT), 1st Round Pick & 4th Round this year. Mabye even a pick for next season that could turn into a 1st. Based on Ricky's performance & drug screening.

If the trade did happen....

Phins Draft: Who would you draft with the TOP PICK?
1st Round ~ Mike Williams (WR)
or
1st Round ~ Antrell Rolle (CB)

They would have (2) 1st rounders. They could trade down a couple of slots and take either one of the above players if they are still on the board. Then use the other to trade down again for more picks or draft Amhad Brooks (LB UVA ~ Zach is getting up there in age...it would be nice to see them groom someone to take over for him after he retires....UNLIKE when Dan Marino retired!) or OL.

ALSO GOOD LUCK with the SIGNING of NEW PLAYERS after the SEASON. I hope you land some of the following players. I think they are going to be special....$$$ for you.

1) Mike Williams
2) Antrell Rolle
3) Amhad Brooks
4) Big "E" ...aka lol Elton Brown. More people know him from his nickname. ;)
5) Aaron Rogers
WOW!!! You've certainly put a lot of thought into all this. The truth is, it's all hypothetical at this point and there's no way to speculate on who might be drafted or traded in 5 months... Although I must say that some of your ideas make sense.

With your insight to the NFL, can your provide any possilbe reasons why Jim Bates shouldn't be considered a H/C candidate?

What does he lack compared to the other coordinators who are Head Coach candidates?
I posed this question to Joe Rose when we were playing tennis the other day, and he believes that Miami just needs to clean house and start fresh. I don't really have an opinion on Bates one way or the other. I would just say that because of his advanced age and lack of previous NFL head coaching experience, expect Miami to go in a different direction at the end of the season. By the way, I can't believe that on the Dolphins' official website it lists Jim Bates' position as "interim head coach".... Talk about no respect.

Hey Brett how are you? My dream is to become a football coach. Could you please tell me how i can become a coach? Do i need to get a certain type of degree? I am 15 years old and i figure it is time for me to start thinking what i need to do to become a coach.

Brett, let Trent know we wish him the best! Do you think there is a possibilty of him re-joining the Fins? Thanks, and happy holidays!
There's already been a handful of teams that have expressed interest in Trent for next season. Once this season is over we'll weigh out our options and go from there. As of now, I don't think the Dolphins have put too much thought into it (they've had some other issues to deal with lately). Thanks again for your interest, and happy holidays to everybody at FinHeaven!

Hello Brett! I too was wondering how do you get involved in football. I'm more interested in the general manager/scout side of it though.

Most football coaches are former players who understand the philosophies of the game. Many of them break into coaching as volunteers or graduate assistants (in many cases at the same school they attended). From there they work their way up to position coach, coordinator, and ultimately head coach. You don't need any formal degrees to coach, but your best bet is to ask some of your high school coaches how they got started. Tell them about your aspirations and find out what you can do to be of assistance to them. Good luck.

Brett have you got any seniors yet?..For the up coming draft and what are your thoughts of Jason White besides his ol injuries as a QB and his projections??...I know its early but at phinzone I said Wanny would be gone by week 8(Close)and the seasons over so I am already looking forward to the draft.

Getting an NFL front office or scouting position is very difficult. Some of the scouts and front office people have been doing this for 30+ years, so it's not like jobs are opening up daily. Most of the newer guys I know started out as interns and were either lucky or had connections. Obviously you need to know football and be a great evaluator of talent. Some guys start their own scouting services and develop quite a reputation (Mel Kiper). I recommend that you call your local NFL team and ask to speak to someone in the college scouting department. Hopefully they will take the time to point you in the right direction.

I'm actually in Colorado right now where I just signed a great offensive tackle out of CSU named Erik Pears who I'm thrilled to be working with. While Jason White has been super-productive at Oklahoma, you can't overlook his injury history. His draft value will be determined at the NFL Scouting Combine when teams can finally give him a physical and check out the extent of his injuries.

Erik Pears is HUGE. The Sporting News has him listed at 6'8" and 315 (which likely means 6'6" and 300 ;) )

Brett, is he better suited for LT or RT? If you can, where do you project him now? I would like to see him here in B-LO :D

Actually, the Sporting News is pretty accurate with their heights and weights. It's usually the school websites that add 2 inches and 10 pounds. For lack of better comparison, Erik Pears is just like Todd Wade. He has incredible size, is a great athlete, and should be a mid-round pick at worst. His stock will rise at the East/West Shrine Game and the Combine (where he'll run a 5.00 40). There's no reason why this guy can't be a starting right tackle in the NFL for many years to come.

Well then he's not likely to come to B-LO. I think Mike Williams has finally begun to realize his potential. If he was capable of handling LT, then I could see the possibility.

Brett: What do you know about Chris Colmer from NC ST?

Hey Brett.....I am actually looking at maybe one day becoming a Scout for an NFL or NCAA team....what would I need to know and what would requirements be to become a scout? Thanks
