Getting an NFL front office or scouting position is very difficult. Some of the scouts and front office people have been doing this for 30+ years, so it's not like jobs are opening up daily. Most of the newer guys I know started out as interns and were either lucky or had connections. Obviously you need to know football and be a great evaluator of talent. Some guys start their own scouting services and develop quite a reputation (Mel Kiper). I recommend that you call your local NFL team and ask to speak to someone in the college scouting department. Hopefully they will take the time to point you in the right direction.

so much for me becoming the next Mel Kiper.

What's up everybody? I've been quite busy lately and I wanted to check in. Last night I got back from Indiana where I signed a great fullback/special teamer from Purdue named Jon Goldsberry. Tomorrow morning I leave for the East/West Shrine game in San Francisco where I'll spend the entire week. As soon as I'm finished there I go to the Las Vegas All-American Classic for another week to watch two more of my guys. Even though this time of the year is both physically and emotionally draining, it's also very rewarding and challenging. I'll be checking in from time to time, so keep the questions coming. Happy New Year to everybody at FinHeaven!
Brett

Hello Brett! I know you are probably suffering from jet lag right now. Hang in there. I wanted to ask you on the future of Trent. Has he made a decision on who he will play for in 2005? I would love to see him in Dolphin colors again. How is his health? We wish him the best in 2005.

Brett, not sure if you can help me with this or not,but I am hoping anyway. I run a sportsbased website as well, and I was trying to get information such as from NFL,NBA,MLB,Nascar, with such things as driver addresses, team mailing and e-mailing addresses, etcc, along those lines, so fans can write in and ask for autographs, get team information, etc...

I have found a site or two that list all sports teams, or they say they do anyway, but the site price is ridicuosly priced, and Im no rich man here... LOL Several years ago , I remember in some magazine seeing all NFL teams mailing addresses given, and even wrote the Dolphins then, but that was many years ago, and I dont even know where to try to find all these different sports mailing addreses and such now... any help from you, or any staff or anyone would certainly be appreciated my friend..... Oh, and BTW, how is that new little girl doing ? Hope all is well, take care, and thanks again Brett, Dan

Greetings from the Las Vegas All-American Classic... Everything is going very well here. I've signed a few more players, and all of my guys have been very impressive this week. I've been busy helping them with all the team questionares, and arranging interviews with the many scouts who've wanted to speak with them. In fact, the Dolphins seem to have serious interest in more than one of my guys. Saturday night I take a red-eye home and my travels are finally over for a while. In regards to those who've been asking for my opinions on this year's prospects, kindly direct those questions to Boomer as the draft is his specialty.

The best way to get player autographs through the mail is to send your item to the team (care of: the player) with a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can find all the team addresses on NFL.com or the other league websites. Good luck.

P.S. There's no little girl here... you must have me confused with somebody else.

Yeah, I had indeed, thanks for the assist in explaining it for me. I think maybe the columns had flip flopped or something, or maybe I was that night !

Anyway, thanks for the assist, and thanks to you as well Brett, I appreciate it. I found a site that has all the team addresses and I just wanted to provide that for my viewers at my sports chat site so they can contact their favorite players. Big help, thanks again !! Dan :)

Which guys did you end up signing?

As I mentioned before, I signed OT Erik Pears from Colorado State (who just tore his right shoulder at the East/West Shrine Game and had successful surgery last week), as well as QB Chad Friehauf from Colorado Mines who was the Division II Player of the Year, fullback Jon Goldsberry from Purdue who has incredible size, speed, and athleticism and was named The Sporting News' Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Year. I also signed Stephen Cucci from the University of Houston who's a prototypical NFL tight end at 6'5" and 270 pounds that can run and has amazing hands. There's a few more including Paul Ernster, a punter from Northern Arizona who has a cannon for a leg and just set the NCAA record for net punting average.

I'm very excited about this year's group of guys. Even though none of them may be household names or first round picks, you can definitely expect to see a few of them playing in the NFL next season.
