Hey Brett.
Two quick questions for you:
1:The Dolphins are about 6 mil under the cap now, how much of it will it take to sign all the drafted rookies?
2: Who do you see being released in June to help the cap situation?
Thanks!

1. The Dolphins' rookie pool is approx. 4.6 mil. Subtract that from their current cap space and you can figure out what they'll have left in the end.

2. The Dolphins' June 1st cuts are much harder to predict this year than they've been in years past.

Hey Brett,

Just wondering how your guys went at the draft? Have you had many guys impress NFL teams? I remember reading that you had a talented division 2 QB whose name escapes me.

So what are the options for a veteran player who fails a phisicall ? does he just rehab untill he passes or can he be signed for a nominal amount ? how's that work exactly.for instance that guy the chargers sent 2 miami C goff I think(not-sure) he failed his physicall in miami (I dont care about him specifically) and then what? retire? optioned 2 another league? pay cut? THANX 4 YOURE TIME

Everything worked out well with the draft. The QB that you're referring to is Chad Friehauf who signed with the Denver Broncos.

Brett, give us your take on the Randy Mueller hire??

I don't envision this being a long-term situation. The early word I'm hearing is that he'd be free to leave the Dolphins whenever another team offers him a position to have final say on personnel matters. Being as he's respected around the league and has done a good job in the places he's been, when the Dolphins start winning look for other teams to come knocking. As long as Saban is in charge, this will always be an unappealing situation for any GM who's accustomed to having full authority. Essentially, Mueller's role will be the same as Spielman's was under Wannstedt (but with a more prestigious title). If they could have gotten a young personnel whiz (like Belichick did with Scott Pioli years ago in New England) or somebody who works better behind the scenes (like Tom Modrak in Buffalo) they'de probably have more long-term security at their talent evaluating position.

Whether a player passes or fails his physical is at the sole discretion of each club's physician. Once a player fails a team's physical, they usually won't sign them for liability reasons (unless there's a medical waiver included). Just because one team doctor sees something as a problem doesn't mean that another team doctor won't pass him. That's why I'll have my players get a second medical opinion if we're unsure (just to be on the safe side). If multiple teams fail a player on his physical, you know there's a problem that needs to be corrected or the player should consider retirement if it's a degenerative condition.

McGarrahan & Tessler?

Hey Brett,

I know Scotty Mac hasn't been with the Fins for a couple of years, but I was curious if there was any recent news on him about mini-camps, visits, or likelihood of making a team this year? I knew him back in college, and been following his career with interest. Any updates? And, when you talk to him tell him Cali G says Hi.

Thanks,

Cali G

I think Brett mentioned in an earlier post that he has decided to hang 'em up and call it a career.

Actually, it was Trent Gamble who retired. McGarrahan just visited the Redskins last week and it's very possible that something will happen in the near future.

OOps...my bad...thanks for the clarification Brett.

Hey Brett,

How exactly does being an agent work? Do you fly around meeting teams and work with them on a contract for your clients or what? And do you have any clients that play another sport?
