Another article about Jeno James and others

the most interesting thing i got out of this , they asked players who they are impressed the most with and Jay Williams said this :

Defensive end Jay Williams said Dan Goodspeed, an obscure second-year tackle from Kent State, will "challenge Wade Smith for the starting job."

Here it is, you need to subscribe to read this though

Most interesting quote from that article IMO......

What would have happened if early front-runner Randy Mueller had become the Dolphins' general manager instead of Rick Spielman?

"There's no way of knowing, but I always thought A.J. Feeley had starter's ability, and we considered drafting him when I was with the Saints," Mueller said.

"I don't think Miami could have afforded to wait for a veteran quarterback to become available in free agency. You couldn't chance it. Miami should be credited for this."

Interesting...coming from Jay who already has Chambers:

"Jay Fiedler was the only player approached who mentioned Boston's name first when responding to the question. "From a strength and speed standpoint, he's the most impressive receiver I've played with," said Fiedler, who was a teammate of Randy Moss in Minnesota."

Very interesting indeed Muck.

Each time someone who is REALLY a football insider says something like that about AJ, it makes me feel a little better.

If its that good you should of posted the article

Because we're not legally allowed to post whole articles in a message board thread. The message board gets in trouble and yes, they have been warned in the past.

Anyway I don't take that Jay Williams quote as a good sign. I know Wade Smith showed up to camp lean, mean, and supposedly not so green anymore...but then the reports coming out were talking about him getting beat a lot and Jason Taylor abusing everyone but most of all him, etc etc. I had my doubts about whether Wade Smith would be good enough this season to man our LT position in only his second year and I haven't seen anything to quell those doubts. If Jay Williams is heralding little-known Dan Goodspeed as a guy who will challenge Wade Smith for the job, then I think we can discern what Jay Williams thinks of Wade Smith. Now thats not to say, that Jay Williams' opinion means anything...he's always been a little off-the-wall (remember the "See you after practice" comment to the Texans)...still, it would be nice if I heard a bunch of glowing comments from the DEs about Wade Smith and how good he is and how he's shutting them down etc etc...

Ok let the spinning begin go ahead take shots at what I just said, just know I'm not saying Smith is a problem just that I had my doubts and those doubts haven't been cleared up by anything I've seen or heard so far.

Its nice to see that Randy Mueller has joined the ranks of Ron Wolf in heralding AJ Feeley. Its nice to know that if we're wrong about Feeley, then Wolf and Mueller were both wrong as well. Its not so nice to hear that none of the players cited AJ Feeley or Vernon Carey as standout newcomers...

And anyone else notice the flaw in the article where they explain away Vernon Carey's not being named, because "its hard to evaluate OL during padless mini-camps" yet the premise of the article is that Jeno James is the overwhelming winner of the voting?

Oooook....

Exactly what I was thinking as well. Disturbing.

i was thinking the same, wade smith is he the man really ? did we try to get john tait to be our LT ???

and how can they judge jeno james who is also not in pads...very strange, i hope we all get some relief, if they start to hit each other and smith can hold his own...

Since many of you seem to be subscribers why not each post a section of the article so the rest of us can read it? Would that be a violation?

I say if this is true and this guy is that good where he can push wade smith for the starting job, why dont we leave Smith where he is and move this guy to right tackle and move Carey to right guard

If we can't judge James positively without pads, how can judge Smith so negatively? We should all wait until training camp to really be excited/worried about players...of course somebody like Jason Taylor is gonna kick a$$ w/ no pads on - he is very quick, and one of the best DEs in the league! I for one am not worried about Smith RIGHT NOW - if he struggles w/ pads on in training camp, then I may start to worry a bit.

Keep in mind, that it is really, really hard to evaluate Oline men in minicamps, without pads.

When it comes time for mini camp scrimmages, the defensive line has a tremendous advantage over the oline.

another thing you have to keep in mind is how many players did they ask? did they ask every person on the team?

Like I was saying though...if we can gush about Jeno for how good he looks, then we have to admit Wade Smith has not looked all that impressive and I think that in this statement by Jay Williams, you can see that reflected by a player.
