MERGED: The formula is almost complete for a Super Bowl run....

Start A.J. Feeley, and you get a stronger arm and a little better quickness off the line of scrimmage with slants and screens.
I was under the impression that Fiedler through the better slants and short stuff and Feeley was able to hit those deep outs and flys better.

And the people who in every thread start talking about how none of this matters because of Wanny are starting to get annoying, does anyone agree?

Ok, my first words were a bit obnoxious...

It's easy for me to get all riled up, cuz I am in the same boat as all of us are....hopes of a ring, and always a mystery situation by week 12....Philly's o-line was porous, if you look at McNabbs hurried passes, and how much he was forced out of the pocket, that contributed to his inaccuracy last year. They still have the Freak, and Andy reid, solid leadership...Who will challenge them in the NFC, that's why I think they'll go...

FYI on Ricky, he has had leg issues since the ankle break in New Orleans. We just don't hear about the issues in media very often because he is a very tough S>O>B>.....Saw a clip out of Dolphins magazine in October 03 that qoted him as describing his legs as "constantly rearranging puzzle pieces to keep the picture visible:...don't ask, i'm just quoting...

Fiedler lost weight at first, then built it back as muscle....and he is competent with the slants, but being competent, and making the perfect pass, is the difference between 1st and 10, and 4th and 8....

on a personal note.....Who will open the champagne after they're all dead ?

You're wrong about one thing, Philly if they even make the super bowl won't win. The AFC wins again regardless of who shows up.

this is off topic but if there wasnt a team of preferance in the superbowl would you rot for the afc team.

and i too beleive were almost to the championship form, 2002 i thought we were going in mid season with ricky running wild, and i had even higher ecpectations when junior and sammy came in before 2003, but they just couldnt do it. our defense is ovverrated i think, and we absolutely need our offense to perform so the defense can show its true talent.

Ok Phin-phuks, I'm here to clarify some things for all you doubting, blithering meatheads that can never let go of Marino and the Killer Bees....We are a better team this year since '94. Let me elaborate... Our team success has been highly dependent on defesne for the past 10 years, but lacking a CONSISTENT running game has been the key. Now the Dolphins find themselves with a huge dilemna at the position of quarterback. Start Fiedler and get complete knowledge of the playbook AND players...Start A.J. Feeley, and you get a stronger arm and a little better quickness off the line of scrimmage with slants and screens. I guess there are a couple things to consider...

First issue is health. Fiedler has a good winning percentage when he's healthy, but when he comes off of an injury, he isn't very good. He has bulked up a bit ( 15 lbs. bigger up top this year), which gives him more release velocity, but may make him prone to more elbow and shoulder issues. Feeley on the other hand is younger, and he comes from a system that is more pass devoted (Philly) and relies on a 3rd stringer to be ready since their o-line was porous...

Miami's O-line is strong this year, and without grandpa Ruddy at center, we should see a quicker pull to the ends from a younger center. What that does is it enables Ricky to exploit the the the outsides AND work a lot more on the screens and delay flat passes, which were huge missing links in '03 for our offense. Another underrated player that doesn't get credit for Ricky's success is Rob Konrad. Rob brings toughness and size to the blocking aspect of our miserable 3rd down numbers, and he has great hands for a fullback.

Here's my X-factor.. I think the key to Jacksonville for our beloved Phins falls on two things. Special teams and how well our starting field position is this year, since we were almost last in the league in field position, which meant longer, more treacherous drives, which as we know, doesn't bode well for our young offensive line and our prize running back Ricky Williams, who was subbing out more often the second half of the season with leg issues. He needs to stay loose on the sidelines, and quit focusing so much on trying to create holes that aren't there. He will be faster this year, and will be able to get outside if he's more patient.

The other factor is playcalling. Coach Dave is in the hotseat, but for good reason. He didn't go for it on fourth very often last year, due to Norv Turner's predictable monotanous offensive scheme. Dave could have made some decisions on the playcalling side that would have given his team the confidence they lacked in the clutch. Plus, we'll see Fiedler calling more audibles, for he is more knowledgeable of the plays this year AND has finally gotten the defensive reads down. His decision making, along with Wandstadt's confidence boosting in him (or Feeley) will go a long way if he shows his balls this year...Otherwise, look for the Phins to find a big college running-down-your-throat coach who will have a passing game to compliment Ricky, instead of trying to compliment Ricky with interceptions and punts. My prediction for this year......12-4 ...We'll get into the playoffs as the East champs, with N.E. as a wild card. we will host the first round at home against an afc west opponent like the chiefs or broncos. then we will travel to indy or tennessee and test our stamina. If we get to the AFC championship game, we will go simply because no one expected us to get past the first round. Philadelphia or Seattle and either Miami or Indianapolis in the Super Bowl, with Miami winning if Seattle shows up, and Philly taking it no matter who is from the AFC...there it is...if any of you are asking why I didn't mention David Boston or Chris Chambers, it's because that subject is a no brainer...Produce the goods, or go away...
First off Philly will be a bust, they had there LAST chance last year and blew it, look for Green Bay or Washington(believe it or not) to represent the NFC(no NFC team is strong enough to win the SB this year).....And Miami and Indy sounds good for the AFC but Miami and Tennessee sounds likely. Where the AFC championship game is played will determine if the phins win the SB. -ps Wale had his best games against Indy and the Pats. WE NEED TO GET HIM SIGNED !!!

If it's not the Dolphins in the superbowl, I root for the team I bet on. Although the Pats were heavily favored in last years superbowl, I couldn't bring myself to bet on a division rival. Panthers lost me 100 bucks last year. Hopefully the Dolphins will seek vengence for the Pats emptying my pocket. :)

All i can say is Goooooo Miami! I would love to rememeber what it feels like to be in a superbowl and it actually matter who wins.

Certainly this is a team with talent, the question marks are as follows and are major IMO:

1) Is our Offensive line that has been ignored for several years ready with its one year repair job to play at a consistently high level?

2) Can Feely give us the consistency and playmaking ability Fiedler lacks?

3) Can Dave Wannstedt as head coach lead a team anywhere? In 10 years he has appeared less than capable, can the talent of this team override the superior coaching of the other elite teams we will have to beat?

Of course we all hope so but it remains seriously in question..................

Wouldnt it be sweet if it was Philly and Miami in the Superbowl and Feeley was at center?

I'd rather see McKinney at center. Feeley needs to add alot of strength before he could start there.
