The contract situation with OGUN got me thinking about who the Dolphins should be spending their money on. It made me think about the team as a whole and who should get the best contract. So I ranked the top 10 players on the Dolphins as I would pay them for the next year. Treat this like a situation where all the players on the Dolphins are up for a contract renewal and you have to prioritize who you sign for 1 year. Who are the top 10 players you would sign (1 being the highest paid and 10 being the lowest).

1. Ricky Williams
2. Patrick Surtain
3. Chris Chambers
4. Zach Thomas
5. Jason Taylor
6. Sam Madison
7. Jeno James
8. David Boston
9. Larry Chester
10. Tim Bowens

I would probably put McMichael at 11 and then OGUN at 12. We need another OL that is worth paying top 10 dollar. I guess we will find out if Smith or Carey will fill that role this year. Might help if we had a QB on the list as well!

Well if I could start from scratch with what we have, then I would do the following.

1. Ricky Williams
2. Patrick Surtain
3. Chris Chambers
4. Jason Taylor
5. Zach Thomas
6. Sam Madison
7. Jeno James
8. Ogun
9. Larry Chester
10. David Boston

Then:
R. McMicheals
T. Bowens
M. Greenwood
R. Konrad
AJ Feeley
S. Mckinney
R. McIntosh

Rookie have to prove themselves before they get a big contract out of me. :D

Chester hasn't proven he's anything special on this team yet, Bowens is getting old and his days are numbered, I would place Ogun in the top ten for sure and probably McMichael.

Good thread!!

Taylor – position + ability make him the top priority
Surtain – same as above, but not quite as dominating
Williams – centerpiece of the offense
Thomas – heart and soul of the defense
Chambers – maybe the most pure ability
Madison – still great at an important position
Ogunleye – bottom line - Pro-bowl DE’s get paid
Bowens – longest tenured Dolphin has earned his money
Feeley – QB’s are on a higher pay scale
Seau – he’s a HOF’er, pay him as much as possible

Others: McMichael, James, Mare, Konrad, Knight would have made the list, but play at typically lesser paid positions. Boston just missed the list, let him prove himself this year and then pay him.

Hmmm interseting thread. My list goes like this-
1.Ricky Williams
2.Jason Taylor
3.Patrick Surtain
4.Zach Thomas
5.Chris Chambers
6.Jeno James
7.David Boston
8.Randy McMhiceal
9.Adawale Ogunleye
10.Tim Bowens
9 & 10 was hard so i just piked 1.
Honorable Mention(in no order)
Sammy Knight, Sam Madison, Wade Smith, Vernon Carey, Rob Konrad, A.J. Feeley

I would put Sam Madison above David Boston, however other then that I agree.

He's proven that combined with Tim Bowens they can be the 2nd ranked run defense in the league and keep OL off Thomas.

I am of the opinion that opposing OL have to keep an eye on Taylor while having to deal with Chester and Bowens often taking on more than one lineman. That type of situation opens up OGUN for sacks that he wouldn’t be able to get without such a strong DL like in Miami. Taking away Bowens and Chester and inserting average DL would be a disaster. Taking away OGUN wouldn’t really hurt the D that much.

Zach is getting old I think he needs to be lower down on the list.

Damn right. And wait till he straps 'em on this year after losing a ton of weight.

If you want a great run defense and you run a 4-3, you've got to have TWO studs inside who can get it done. One is not enough. Notice how when Chester replaced Gardener (who missed a lot of time), the our ypc allowed plummeted back below 4.0 again.

Also, Buffalo is a great example. In 2002, their run defense was a joke. And that was with Pat Williams, who is a beast. Last year they pick up Sam Adams (who gave a tremendous effort) and they're impenetrable.

No, you don't play a decade old NFL player as much as possible. You pay him maybe a bit more than the veteran minimum. He's in this for the ring.

1. Jason Taylor
2. Ricky Williams
3. Patrick Surtain
4. Chris Chambers
5. Adewale Ogunleye
6. Zach Thomas
7. Jeno James
8. David Boston
9. Sammy Knight
10. Sam Madison

this thread is kind of hard to do because you have premium positions which automatically demand more money aka mcmicheal although important to the team, at TE, shouldnt be paid TOO much

I agree 100%.....which is why I am so surprised to see Jeno James on so many lists.

Again, Chester was far from special last year, in fact he was somewhat disapointing, we'll see if he plays like a special player this year with some weight off.
