Jakeem Grant vs. Omar Kelly

Bulliten board material. Hope Grant takes one to the house against Pittsburgh.

Wouldn't we all want to see that. Although I'd prefer he do it as a receiver because I know Drake can take it to the house in several fashions.

He's earned criticism for all the dropped punts. Frankly this is one area I'm a little disappointed in the coaching staff. I realize there's only so many snaps to go around but this kids place isn't punts. It's kick offs and as a WR and especially in special packages. He put up record numbers in college, he's no slouch as a receiver and hasn't shown issues with his hands in the receiving aspect.

This is so true.

Grant is a raw talent and he could make impact plays depending on how he is used.

So far, using him on punts has been less rewarding because he's so raw. And he's pressing. Trying to hit home run. Trying hard to make something out of nothing. Sometimes the best choice when doing this is simply letting it come to you. Not pressing. He's turned pressing into turnovers and fumbles and hard hits that were unwarranted.

Miami could use him better, imo. He was making plays all over the place in camp. but in real season, only so many snaps to go around for skill position -- and with a LIMITED playbook (which Gase had to go to part way through season), speciality packages are lessned.

Grants time will come.

I realize he has the great speed and broken field moves but if I was making the decisions there would be no way he would be fielding punts in the Playoffs. I'm not going to risk a fumble costing us a game at this stage. Kickoffs, I could see him back there but with strict instructions to down the ball in the end zone unless there is a real chance to do better than the 25. I sure don't want him running one out from 8 yards deep and getting slammed to the turf at the 12 yard line. Once that happens and the refs throw the inevitable blocking in the back flag we're operating from our 6 yard line. Field position is so bad that it will probably cost us points to get it flipped. As far as working him in for a few snaps a game, I trust Gase to use him that way or not. IMO Grant needs a full off season to work with his fielding punts and being a receiver in the NFL. Right now he's too risky in the punt game for my liking, put in Landry, it's the Playoffs. BTW, been rewatching the first Steeler game and they couldn't block Wake or Branch. Jones made a game changing pick in the 2nd quarter. We will miss him in this game, and Pouncey.

While I don't think Omar had to call it a major failure, he is right about Grant. His one job is to catch the punt. If he can't do that there is no way he is getting on the field as a receiver. He will have the off season and training camp next year to show improvement. I hope he does.

I think Omar asked a q in press conference. He tweeted how gase said he needs to be consistent and hold on to the ball.

Thanks for giving some backstory

I think Grant might need a lesson in what reporters actually do.

The only thing he has in common with Sproles is height.

Sproles is much thicker than Grant and has much better hands. He can actually be useful on offense as a blocker . . . where Grant . . . that is a big lol and knows how to run inside the tackles and get it going north and south. Grant is fast, but that speed get severly minimized on this level and you really just need to breathe on him to trip him up.

The only value Grant brings is at returner, and he has been a liability due to his drops.

So yea, he can get mad at Omar for being critical of him, and yea Omar can be a douche . . . but this kid has to put in major work this offseason or he absolutely wont have a job next year, at least not on Miami.

My hope was that Grant could be what Tyreek Hill is now for the Chiefs which is a guy who gets a limited amount of touches but can score a touchdown in any given situation he gets the ball. But Grant was a 6th round pick which isn't far removed from an undrafted free agent and he's producing like an undrafted free agent. Hill was an elite talent who fell to the 5th round and the Chiefs did enough homework to roll the dice on him while other teams were running the other direction. See: how the Dolphins snagged Ajayi.

Omar at times seems tolerable, mainly on the radio. But then he runs his mouth on twitter and acts like hes above everyone else. Like NO ONE else can see what he sees or understand football like he does.

Yes you need to be confident when doing any job. But to me there is a stark comparison between confidence and arrogance. And to me, he is WAY to arrogant. He's a beat writer, stop acting like you are ruler of the world. People would actually appreciate the things he does well IF he wasn't such a jerk.

Even if Blowmar is somewhat correct, it's still nice to see players give it right back to him

the conspiracy theorist would say... gase wanted to light a fire under his ass, and the coaching staff has tried everything, so now one final chance to see how he reacts to a planted omar twitter battle.

Not sure I disagree with him on that one

Drake is our best returner and Caroo and Grant have done nothing on O.

Caroo did have the impressive TD a few weeks back. What has Scott contributed? Grant has been up and down. Couple of nice returns and then a fumble. He does need to do more as an offensive player....

I for one am surprised at how excited Omar has been by the team's success. He's put out tons of positive tweets and stories since the team has been successful. It makes me believe when he says that he calls it like he sees it.

In regards to Grant, he makes himself look like an idiot here. You haven't been performing well and a member of the media (who's job it is to critique you) has said as much; what's the problem. Don't get mad because you're on thin ice, it's a fact.

Besides noone is scared of all 5'7 of Jakeem Grant. It would be funny if he challenged Omar and Omar beat him down lol.
