Report: Rey Maualuga working out and Signs for Dolphins

My bad, I didn't see the other thread mods please add this one to it or delete, thx.

Honestly, we don't have a solid MLB on the roster if we're playing Timmons and Kiko both outside. Hull gets swallowed by guards, Allen is too raw and takes poor angles (because he's used to being faster than everyone in college, but they're just as fast as him in the pros). As a two down thumper, I think Maualuga can do just fine. I was initially more worried about our nickel package guys in coverage, and that hasn't changed ... but yeah, we need a run stuffer for 1st down, short yardage and goal line stuff.

Too bad Deandre Levy's knee still an issue.

R e y M a u a l u g a

easy spelling. With the exception of Rey instead of Ray it's just like it sounds.

Seems like a smart pickup given our current situation and time of year.

I remember the hit he laid on the ucla qb. Man that was brutal. Too bad it was like 200 years ago.

Like it or not he's a far better option than Mike ****ing Hull. I knew this team would regret passing on Zach Brown. What do you expect them to do at this point, though? Best option available.

He'll play two downs and be somewhat effective.

regret passing on zach brown? get real.

Maualuga gets reunited with his old Bengals linebacker coach, Matt Burke, who is now our new Defensive Coordinator. Maualuga probably played pretty well for Burke in 2014 and 2015. Let's see what sort of condition he's in, but does anyone else see the parallels of Cutler coming in to replace Tannehill with the ACL surgery? Grier/Tannenbaum have found an experienced veteran who knows the system and had previous success under the coach, who's now in a bigger role. I seem to recall that Maualuga was pretty physical in the good Bengals teams. Also can't recall when we last had a linebacker corps with 2 experienced thumpers (Timmons and Maualuga). Plus the addition of another experienced veteran in William Hayes on the D-line (who can also play tough), our Defense could look very different.

The Miami Dolphins are signing veteran Rey Maualuga to a one-year contract, a move meant to reinforce a linebacker corps following the loss of rookie Raekwon McMillan to a season-ending knee injury.

Maualuga is expected to be the team’s middle linebacker, playing primarily on run downs.

Maualuga, 30, agreed to a deal that will pay him $900,000 in base salary (the minimum for a ninth-year veteran). The Dolphins will invoke the minimum salary benefit, which essentially means the nine-year veteran will count $615,000 against the team’s salary cap.

Does this mean we are stuck with him for the year or can we cut him if we find someone better?
