Former Fins owner Wayne Huizenga passes away

I was saddened when I heard the news, my condolences go out to his family and friends.

RIP, Wayne.

RIP Wayne, I never felt negative towards him. I wasn't sure how the board would respond, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the positive responses. I forgot about him owning the Marlins and selling off that World Series team.

Unless it's Adolf Hitler I can't imagine someone disrespecting the dead.

No, he was hated for selling off half the team after their first World Series championship...
Considering all he accomplished in business plus his ownership of the Fins which IMO was good enough to put butts in seats but not good enough to go the final miles needed, I was not gonna bring the Marlins up. However since you did, count me among the haters for that very reason. It was disgraceful!

RIP WH - you left a big footprint in life as your legacy.

Sad news, RIP.

Wasn't aware he owned the Marlins, their current and previous owner gets a lot of hate. Was he popular?
At one time he owned the fins, panthers and marlins at the same time. He was popular when the Marlins won the World Series - then crucified for gutting the team since they needed to be profitable.

To his credit, he put that team together and won a WS but he seems to not get enough credit for that part. Only the part where after the win he got rid of everyone as the club lost money. Funny enough, didn’t this happen the 2nd time they won the WS under different ownership?

Yes. Which led to that owner being hated. The Marlins probably never gained a foothold in South Florida considering their success because of those 2 incidents.

Sad news....what a diverse and incredible business career Wayne Huizenga had.

Incredible that he launched three Fortune 500 companies (Waste Managment, Blockbuster and AutoNation), plus co-founded Extended Stay America.

The sale of Blockbuster for over $8 billion back in the 1990's was an incredible move in hindsight.

RIP Wayne Huizenga. A great businessman and charitable person.
