Probably just a camp body

@ArmandoSalguero: Gavin Escobar has played 64 NFL games with four teams and has 30 career receptions.

Uh. 5 years, no seasons with more than 9 catches or 134 yards. Does have 8 TDs on 30 catches.

But....why?

Just a camp body. Who knows maybe he'll surprise? Jesse Davis did. Its unlikely he will but hey if you don't try

ya, just a camp body that has a chance to make the team if he blows up. We needed 2 tight ends going into the draft and we still need a starting tight end. This doesn't change a thing, it is nice to see them add a more athletic tight end though for a change.

Waste of a camp body is what he is. Total bust 5 years ago. He was a part of that weird stretch where the Cowboys drafted a tight end in the second round of three consecutive drafts. The other two were Anthony Fasano and Martellus Bennett.

This guy hasn't done a damn thing in the league, but he does seem to have a nose for the endzone. 8 TDs on 30 receptions.

Maybe he's better than Duarte. Won't beat out Derby, Gray, and whoever we draft. And we better draft a TE at 42.

Bringing bodies in doesn't mean they will make the final roster, Bring in as many as you can, may find a gem eventually, we need all the help we can get at TE anyways.

I actually remember this guy, can't believe that was 5 years ago. I'm not sure, but I thought people around these here parts wanted to draft him.

I watched him in Dallas. Never saw a lot of time for two reasons.
1. Poor inline blocker. Dallas at the time still wanted to run 2TE sets a lot but wanted both TEs to be sound blockers. He wasn't.
2. Jason Witten.

That being said, I don't see what they saw when they took him in round 2. Especially when they showed in the past with Fasano and Bennett they didn't know how to properly use the #2 TE.
He is a natural pass catcher.
Garrett, IMO never really game planned to take advantage of his personnel. It was very scripted play calling that had to fall in line with his gameplan more so than a Bill B that work with what he has. Since Gavin couldn't block, he didn't play that much.

Don't expect much though.
