Week 3 Power Rankings

17th (previous was 23)

The Dolphins have gotten off to the most optimal start fans could envision: 1-0 in the AFC East, 2-0 in the conference and relatively healthy (though the Josh Sitton injury does hurt). Miami's defense put it on tape, so to speak, in Sunday's first half, shutting down the Jets at every turn. When Sam Darnold and Co. turned it on after the break, the Dolphins' offense made the plays it had to make. Look no further than Frank Gore's (shoestring-)catch-and-run to convert third-and-forever, essentially putting the game away in the fourth quarter. Only 25 yards rushing for him Sunday, but that was still enough to move Gore into fourth place when it comes to career rushing yards. With 14,112, Gore only trails Barry Sanders (15,269), Walter Payton (16,726) and Emmitt Smith (18,355). What a career.

Ryan Tannehill's stats through two games won't blow you away, but the quarterback has quietly returned to the starting lineup without missing a beat. - Browne

Here's my prediction:

If Miami beats the Raiders and New England beats the Lions (I do think both of these are likely to happen, particularly NE beating the Lions), then I anticipate a BIG jump in all the power rankings and some hype for Miami going into week four.

Because it's going to inflate ratings for the inevitable beatdown the Patriots are going to put on us in Foxboro.

I do agree they will try to inflate those ratings by building hype. I also hate to agree very likely they will give us our first loss winning in Foxborough is rare for any team. That being said who knows I will keep hoping for that miracle game we get against them once in a Blue Moon.

I'll be very happy with 3-1 at the quarter, so I'm hoping we just come up with a win vs Oakland. It's a favorable matchup, Dolphins gotta go get it done.

Maybe this is the year that streak ends. While the RT17 led Dolphins are 0-5 in New England they played them down to the last play the last time Tannehill was in Foxboro. I know Brady wasn't playing but still at least we made it game and didn't get blown out like the 4 previous games there. Were getting closer. Also in the 0-5 stretch the Dolphins defense has bee woeful. 28, 27, 41, 36 and 31 points allowed. Hoping the group this year can do better than that and keep us in the game by shutting them down a bit more.

Miami isn’t winning in NE which is why I felt the Jets game was a must win. Now with Oakland coming to town, the team really has to win this game too. Oakland flying across the country to play at 10am their time in the Florida sun is a huge advantage for the Dolphins.

If they can get to 3-0 that gives them a bit of room to lose to NE (at CIN follows and will be tough).
