The Patriots Plan: Who Do They Eliminate?

I’m glad someone called out that guy about Tannehill and the blitz. He’s great against the blitz. As for a collapsing pocket, even the great Tom Brady struggles against an effective 4 man rush. That shouldn’t be a knock on Tannehill.

So, the Bellichek model for his D is to find your most valauble offensive weapon and take it away, and let the "lesser" players beat you.
Who do you think BB sees as that player for us, and what do you think he does to eliminate him?

I think it will not be a player this time, but what sort of plays. There will be no more big plays as far as Bill is concerned. No deep passes, no short passes extended for long plays.

This is why I think the running game, and the TEs (especially Gesicki) will be extremely important.

Tune in, because this may be the game where if Miami gets 2 to 4 big plays, Bill will finally be seen losing it, and if Miami has 5 or more big plays...Bill's head might explode.

New England doesn’t have the defense to take anything away this year. That unit is terrible and lacks speed and top end talent.

This is where the Dolphins O can really exploit them considering their insane team speed. It will be pick your poison with the 3 Speedsters & Drake on the field at the same time.

I'm not sure that's the case so far this year. I think they showed a graphic (based on PFF data I think) during the Raiders game that pointed out his insanely high QBR against the blitz in 2016 (around 105 IIRC), but this season so far it's down amongst the lowest. I'd have to go back and check the Gamepass broadcast, not sure when in the broadcast it was.

Not sure who which one player they could take away to impact the offense. That will not work this year because we have too many weapons who know what they are doing and where they are supposed to be.

Kenny Stills: 9/184/3 (20.4 average)
Albert Wilson: 8/142/2 (17.8 avg)
Jakeem Grant: 9/135/2 (15 avg)
Danny Amendola: 11/100/0 (10 avg)

Now DeVante Parker is back...2/40/0 (20 avg)

and Gesicki is picking up steam...4/42/0 (10.5 avg)

Then you have Drake and Gore to add to the mix.

The idea would be to pressure Tannehill but too many of our guys have short area quickness and can get open quickly. Also who is their pass rush threat?

Hightower is not the same player he once was after coming back from a pec tear....

However, two games into the season, Hightower clearly has not regained his pre-injury form. Whether due to injury or some other cause, Hightower thus far has lacked his usual explosion, and looks slow on the field. Perhaps the Patriots erred in counting on Hightower to get back to his pre-injury level of play, because while he was never a good defender in pass coverage, Hightower’s calling-card, his pass rush, has also been lacking to start the season.

Deatrick Wise has 2.5 sacks and Trey Flowers has 1.5 and he missed last week. That's it for sacks. Our tackles are playing very well.

They are rotating 4 DT's but no one that is really disruptive. Malcom Brown, Lawrence Guy, Danny Shelton & Adam Butler. Kerryon Johnson was just the first back in Detroit to gain 100 yards for the first time in 70 games. He is not on Drakes level. He had 17 and 43 yards the weeks prior. The Detroit line looked like all stars in that game.

They gave up 31 points to the Jags who were without Fournette. Bortles put up 376 yards and 4 TD's while spreading around the ball to 9 receivers.

Minus a complete melt down by our team with stupid penalties, I think we have a great shot for an upset. We are currently 6th least penalized team in the league.

There LB's are not good. In coverage....forget it. I assume they will run a lot of dime as they typically do with 3 safeties. That just opens them up for the running game.

LACK OF ATHLETICISM ON DEFENSE Missed tackles won’t tell the whole story Sunday, because the Patriots weren’t even athletic enough to get close enough to Lions skill players to whiff.

Check out the article. It points out a few other weaknesses. Here is another...

Brady is 3-of-13 for 83 yards with an interception on passes 20 yards or over this season. He hasn’t completed a deep pass since the Patriots’ Week 1 win over the Houston Texans.

I’d be interested in reading that info. Everything else I’ve found has shown him to be doing well against the blitz this season.

Pretty balanced offense by Dolphin's, not sure trying to stop one player works against this offense.

Backs - 13 targets
Grant - 14 targets
Amendola - 13 targets
Stills - 13 targets
Wilson - 11 targets
TE - 8 targets

Ryan spreading it around well......

As they focus on Grant and Wilson, I think Amendola has something to prove and look for him to make some critical drive-extending catches.. he also has gone against a lot of these guys in practice so he knows their tendencies. I also think this is gonna be Parker's coming out party. And of course then there's Kenny Stills. If the OL gives RT17 a little time to set up, Parker and Stills are gonna hurt the Pats. And if Ryan takes off a few times, that will also loosen coverage up for the receivers and maybe also for Drake.

One thing I'm pretty certain of is that Brady who already has a virtual picket fence around his petticoat will be whining for roughing the passer penalties almost every time.. so The Fins are gonna have to contend with that BS too.

Winning breeds confidence and confidence often overcomes negative expectations.. so I think our guys are going into NE with the mindset to rewrite history!

This is all Gase right here and a definite reason why Landry is gone. If it looks familiar it's exactly how the Patriots have been successful forever, spreading the ball around. Gase knows what he's doing, it's becoming clearer all the time.

Saw something that Brady is like 42 and 11 in the game after a loss.

Couple that with their home record and yeah we got our work more than cut out for us sunday.

Our Oline still stinks (less but still) so I think Beli will attack that in some way. They thrive on the short routes and I expect more of the same. I believe we have the personnel to beat them and it will come down to game plans. Oh, and we will hit Brady but I expect multiple penalties on us for touching him with the slightest breath of air.
