Ryan Tannehill

I'm compiling some numbers on the Dolphins offense again today, and here are a couple of fun ones for you:

Ryan Tannehill is currently third in the NFL in air yards per attempt, with 8.2. That means that our 'dink and dunk' offense actually averages longer passes than all but two other NFL teams.

Ryan Tannehill's Yards Per Attempt is 9.3, also good for third in the NFL. I was told for years that Ryan Tannehill's relatively low yards per attempt under some other coaches was indicative of his ceiling as a quarterback, and not at all related to supporting cast or offensive scheme. Under Gase, his YPA is 7.9, which is a full yard better than his career average under Philbin (Sherman/Lazor). It also puts him right up in the top 5 for NFL for quarterbacks with 16+ starts in that timeframe.

Folks, coaching matters.

Here is an interesting stat

That high 5 put the biggest smile on my face in the past 7 years watching the Fins!

I often placed the majority of blame on Tannehill when we lost. We are winning now--so Tannehill gets most of the credit!

Do I believe Tannehill is the right QB to lead Miami for the next 7+ years? He's given me hope recently by going 10-1 over the last 11 games. But it is hard to forget 30-39 in the previous 69 and a .500 record over the past 7 years.
You can say the same for Matt Ryan considering that despite what THill had to work with and through, for 3 years of that stretch he won 4 more games than did Ryan in Atlanta.. and between '13-15 won 6 more games. And that's with Matty going into his 6th and 7th yr vs Tannehill's 2nd and 3rd.

STILL remains the most under appreciated under valued qb in the nfl.

Starting to make good on my predictions for his future 4 games into his rookie year even. Too bad Adam gase didn’t show up 3 years earlier.

Stay healthy Ryan. Everything else will take care of itself. You can play at a very high level in this league.

Where is that poster who was crying about Pat Mahomes in the 2nd Quarter tell me how do both Qbs stat lines look at the end?

What's the point here? Are you really saying you'd rather have Tannehill than Mahomes? The only argument here is sample size but sheesh he looks like the next BIG thing so far. Throws such a good ball.

Stephen A. Smith is a dick head. Just heard him say "I'm allergic to giving Tannehill that much credit." when discussing the Dolphins. What an asshole.

No way you can convince that these "journalists" are intentionally biased. Stephen A. is still smarting from Todd McShay handing him his ass during a pre-draft discussion about Tannehill and Brandon Weeden.

You said it.

17 is just scratching the surface of his own limitless potential.

All the pummelings under Philbin.

The rest of the 2012 draft.....Not named Rishard.

The entire 2013 draft, really? When I declared to a room full of Eagles fans thirsting to see Chip Kelly re-united with Dion Jordan 4th overall, that the Miami Dolphins select Lane Johnson 3rd with the trade up. The irony was in that moment, no one was happy at that party. Little did the Eagles fans know what part Johnson was about to play in their history. Literally not a chance they win the superbowl without him.

This is how we helped this kid our franchise QB: Dallas Thomas and Michael Egnew.

Moving on to 2014 when the selections of Ju'Wuan James and Jarvis Landry brought hope, (and eventually as many questions as it did answers) with our next big offensive investment.

I was ALWAYS a fan of Jarvis Landry's. Hard not to be. But I did not like our offense and I did not like our potential with him. The mind boggling reception totals were the ultimate mirage that many fans thought were actually losing. They were hollow stats. There was never a doubt in my mind the last 2 years that I would NEVER let Jakeem Grant leave this franchise but I was not concerned with losing Landry for even a second.

We have a long way to go and the Sitton injury certainly starts to limit the extreme potential we had because overall the interior OL is our biggest weakness.

To be 3-0 without much in the way of chunkage from Drake is the only surprise.

Yep, that was my contention also. I'm very happy to see how much he's improved.

I think anyone at this point trying to dumb on Tannehill is just doing it because they don't want to admit of being wrong to anything. There are people here who want Tannehill to play bad, even if it means the Dolphins would lose games because they'd rather see our team lose so that THEY can say THEY were right. Some people's ego get in their way of thinking.

Some of the folks spouting that nonsense are mysteriously absent again. Just waiting for the first loss.

Stephen A. Smith is an asshole? stop the presses!

yeah the OL (once again) becoming an anchor fir RT.

I loved our starters' grit, but damn the injuries and lack of depth. thst was my ONE criticism of the way Gase was building this thing.

I know you can only do so much w 53 man limit, but you GOTTA protect that QB investment- especially now when you see he's got the potential fir a multi-year top 5 qb.

I hope this is still at top of "To Do" list that Gase looks at every mirning.

btw, theyre doing a good job pass protecting-not slamming them, but we might be on birrowed time if we cant upgrade LG.

Actually, one of the only people I can think of that this would apply to is selling empanadas from the back of a truck and did make an appearance just a few pages ago.
