First Draft

Sitting at 4-3, Miami has some positive and some negatives. I think most fans can look at the team and see what needs to be improved.

The big question, regarding the draft is how Ryan Tannehill plays the rest of the way once he gets healthy. That will likely determine the direction the team heads. If the team goes quarterback early, I hope it's an offensive draft that fixes the offensive line as well.

Here's my first draft.

1. Joe Jackson, DE, Miami
The Dolphins defense has showed promise, but the pass rush has been a disappointment.
2. Elgton Jenkins, C, Mississippi State
Miami run game needs help badly. Interior lineman have to be a priority.
3. Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State
Simmons is a first round talent, but he'll drop due to character issues. A penetrating tackle that fits Miami's scheme perfectly and would be a bargain if he gets to round three.
4. Trace McSorley, QB Penn State
McSorley is an interesting developmental prospect with some nice athletic ability and a bit of an it factor. Old school comparison... Rich Gannon.
5. Calvin Anderson, OT, Texas
A big tackle who could be a swing guy for Miami.
6. Kendall Joseph ILB/OLB, Clemson
Dolphins add linebacker depth.
7. Tarik Black, WR, Michigan
A big wideout for competition. Miami has taken a lot of wide receivers since Adam Gase has been HC and I wouldn't doubt that they look sooner to fill a need here.
 
Landing Simmons in the 3rd would be pretty sweet. I'm not familiar with the person at this point, but I'm sure I'll catch up on that sooner than later. I don't think Joe Jackson is worth 1st Round consideration, but I like the general thought process.

Based on the talent of the 2018 Class, I think CB somewhere in the first three rounds is likely. Can never have too many, and there are some good all-around prospects at the position.

Have you had a chance to look at the quarterbacks yet and, if so, who are some that you like?

In a sense, I'd love to see Miami follow the talent in this draft. The DT class is exceptional and while I like Godchaux and Taylor, getting one of those type guys would seem like the way to go. For once, I'd also like to see the Dolphins really concentrate on improving the offensive line. That will be a big help for whoever is qb in 2019.

There are a few I'd draft on Day 3, but given how bad the class looks, it seems likely that those QB's could be pushed up into Day 2. I've seen some people say Ta'amu won't be drafted, and I'd take a flyer on him on Day 3. If Jones, Montez, or Patterson declare and fall to Day 3, I'd like any of them, too.

Love the idea of Patterson on day 3.

I like Patterson as well. Thoughts on McSorley?
 
So many holes on this team, I agree though DE needs to be addressed, Wake is done I'm afraid, Quinn has been a huge disappointment and Charles Harris has been a waste of a top pick. We need two DE's next season, probably one through the draft and the other a top can't miss draft pick. Having said that if a QB falls to us that we like in the first, it should always trump DE.

Gutsy player. I don't think he puts the ball where he wants to consistently enough, and I'd have him later on Day 3 or as an UDFA. He's easy to root for, but I think he's too erratic to consider a solid bet.

His deep throws are a little odd. Seems to have arm strength as he can zip the intermediate throws. But he pus a lot of air under some deep passes and they end up as contested throws. I wonder if that's simply a coaching issue.
