A Bit Of A Contrarian View...

I think Gase is good at designing plays, but terrible at calling them during the games. If he could get a good OC to call plays on game day we'd probably be in good shape. There is no chance of this happening however. Also the sight of him isolating himself on the bench during the game was quite disturbing imo.
I don’t think I ever saw Shula or Belichek take themselves “out” of a game and sit by themselves to focus on play design or whatever. That was indeed disturbing - good adjective.

I remember all of them.
Remember when Dwight Stephenson got injured and we played Philly the following week with an unknown center named Dellenbach?
First three offensive snaps were SACKS on Marino. Jerome Brown, Reggie White?
Sandusky, one of the all time great O-line coaches made adjustments and we ended up winning that game.
Dellenbach became our starter for a while and everything worked out fine.
That's having DEPTH on your roster.
Me too. Dellenbach was decent but a huge drop off after Stephenson. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the team descended into mediocrity after his injury in ‘85. Bear Bryant once said that he was the best football player he’d ever coached. Best football player - that’s saying something. I have flashbacks of Dwight in pass pro w the towel hanging down, looking for someone to block, a rogue blitzer to level - just manning a “zone”. So athletic and smart. If there’s such a thing a center being exciting to watch it was him when pass blocking. So light on the feet and always ready to pick up an oncomer.

I remember reading an article or blurb that said Marino was behind a line consisting of all backups one season, and he still barely got sacked.
Yes this is true. However, the better his lines were the better he fared. But the ability to read the field so fast and jet the ball out at warp speed hid o-line deficiencies when they existed. Also, he didn’t really play behind a “great” line after ‘85. See his stats from ‘83-‘85 - not a total coincidence. Webb and Sims rejuvenated things in ‘90 but that line in the early ‘90s was good, not as good as the one in early 80’s. And, well, look at Dan’s stats from ‘90-‘95 and more importantly, playoff berths. Need a good line no matter who you are. Marino would have cut Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner himself.

Its a fair point, but the problem is: Gase built this team.

This isnt his first year. He had every opportunity to improve our ****ty Oline, but he feels that he is so smart, he can just scheme his way around a bad oline.

Pass denied!

Gase = JOKE!

Time to move on (actually now long overdue).

Unending excuses and scapegoats.

Pathetic O product (even when we had all our starters).

Can't score. Can't adjust. Can't get the basic job done. He's now certified WORTHLESS IMO.

But first and foremost. Get rid of Ross!!!!

yeah get rid of Ross........he's the owner who hasn't done anything wrong besides put up millions of his own money to give us legit home field advantage.

Dude. What's the FRANCHISE RECORD with that CLOWN as owner???????????????????????????

I'll give you a hint.

It's a LOSER!

70-83 with 1 (one) meaningless playoff appearance!

Great job!

Shula was spoiled. By design.

Crusan and Norm at the tackles. Big Larry and Cheerful Bob at guards. And Jim at center. That’s two (Bob should make it three) HOF linemen.

Later, Dwight, Ed and (still) Cheerful Bob at guards, John and Erik at the tackles.

That’s a pair of pretty damn good lines. Hence, the success.

Today? Oh, man....

Good list. Don't see that much anymore. Not many fans can rattle off all those names.

The one missing is Wayne Moore. I always associate him as left tackle on that glory years team, although I realize Crusan played longer, and more of 1972.

I was fascinated by Moore, as many fans were, due to sheer size. It was almost out of place in that era. Very athletic for that size while Crusan was more of a technician.

It's weird to think I was a kid in those years. I am describing stuff from when I was 12 or 13 and not much older. But it remains very clear and we didn't have any trouble analyzing offensive linemen and what their strengths and weaknesses were. Yet nowadays not only do people prefer to believe those years had to be a blur without the internet and instant information, but also if some 13 year old kid showed up around here the natural tendency is to dismiss as not ready to contribute.

Just random observations...while still on tilt from last night

He tried to get the poor people of the city to pay for it but they were already overburdened by the Marlins stadium. He bitched about it too ... as if he's gonna profit share with the ones paying for it. All so his stadium could get a SB bid. If only he put that much effort into the team ...

Ross is an absolute joke of an NFL owner and the team does nothing with his hires. Just wasting years of my football watching life until I finally snap out of it and find more productive things to do on Sundays.

Well that's kind of my point. When you have the problems this team has had with the OL, and you need 5 guys to fill it out, and you invest in six guys over the span of 7 years... you see where I'm going with this? You gotta devote resources to a problem area if you actually want to fix it.
6 guys in 7 years is a lot. You can’t say that about many other position groups. The problem is the scouting department. They over reach trying to find steals but don’t factor in injury and scheme changes with coaching changes (not really their fault) Their have been 3 regimes in that time. Kind of hard when your picking a big body grinder and you go hire a zone read coach. Consistency at the coaching position will work that out. Gase is still fitting in players he didn’t draft, years 4 and 5 there is no more excuses. When we fielded the starting 5 OL we went 3-0 and had a very balanced offense scoring over 20. Sitton and Kilgore go down along with a guy here and there your 2-4. Healthy teams do a lot for a coach and this coach can’t catch a break in all three years. Even in 16’ we were starting Bacardi Rambo for goodness sake!

So he solely targeted the poor people to pay for it? Ok. Make it a little dramatic will you. He still payed for it out of his pocket. Most stadiums are paid through taxes.

We cant fire Ross so not sure its worth bitching about anyway. He's been a good owner either way.

Stadiums are built in low income areas for land/tax purposes ... where poor people live. He tried to get those people to pay for it. It was denied. He had a fit because he didn't want to pay for his own stadium upgrades ... like a dickbag. So he paid for it to get a SB bid.

Tough stuff, I know. Thanks for the response so I could clear up the already abundantly clear.

It might go into a low income area but its a county and city tax. The people on the street where the stadium is built arent the only ones that pay for it. Thats not how taxes work. And he paid for it anyway. Not sure why you are pissy at him anyway. He forked over the $400 million for it.

Do I need to further break this down? Do you think he got denied because most of the burden was being put on those flush with money in gated neighborhoods ... like with the Marlins stadium?

The 3rd richest owner in sports should fix his own stadium that he's getting the profits for. I mean, he really should've tore that monstrosity down and built a stadium comparable to the rest of the NFL teams ... but whatever. He sucks ... his decisions suck ... his team sucks ... pretty much looking forward to him going away forever.
