2019 Qb Upgrade Ideas

If we're talking about drawbacks on Will Grier I think you gotta start with the arm strength. I think I've only even seen two throws from him that would fit on a curve of the lower level arms among NFL starters. The rest are decidedly below the curve. Stidham doesn't handle pressure well, IMO.

With Drew Lock it's all between the ears. He's got to see the field better and make quicker, better decisions. That's what it is. I think his sluggish feet probably belie a sluggish mind. His feet are getting more active and disciplined, and his mind is coming along with it, but where will it top out?

As I've mentioned in the draft forum, I've been able to take a close look at Lock over his last 3 starts, in depth in the games on the road at Florida and Tenn. He's looked extremely good in these games, to my untrained eye anyway, but would appear to be maturing. His college stats are impressive, he's already one of the most productive QBs in SEC history in terms of yards and TDs, ahead of Peyton Manning. He's got the physical traits that you look for also. I think I see the game slowing down for him and he appears to be making good decisions more often than not, right now. I'm pretty high on him, if we could get him in the 2nd or 3rd round I think it would be a no brainer to roll the dice. But I have little doubt he'll get elevated to the first round based on his production and arm talent. If he continues this form up to the end of the season I would have zero problem in us swinging for the fences with him.

As I've said, at a certain price tag, you'd be nuts to continue to say no to Drew Lock.

But the way this works is, when you prioritize other guys and other positions ahead of a guy like that, you usually just aren't going to end up with him. The high bidders take it.

You need to see Rudolph in an actual regular season game before you go trading for him.

I will throw out a name that no one is talking about that could bridge the gap til the 2020 class with meat still on the bone.

Jacoby Brissett.

But it would have to be a day 3 pick for me. 4th rounder
Not bad. Pretty athletic, which I think is important in Gase's scheme.

I started looking into Drew Lock and he may have the highest upside of the senior quarterbacks coming out. He definitely has the arm strength and can make all the throws. His long ball is good, which is like being a homerun hitter in baseball. If gives your team a chance to put points on the board. Lock has bad footwork and can be inconsistent with accuracy. Both of those issues sound like coachable corrections.

Yeah, I agree. At his best, he's what the NFL is looking for. I know nothing about his intangibles and things of that nature, but he has a very strong arm and can make all the throws. I think the question becomes can a good quarterback coach fix his footwork. I think Gase would be able to do that.

I'd prefer looking into a trade for Derek Carr or picking up Tyrod Taylor as a free agent.

I still maintain though until we fix the QB spot we aren't going anywhere as a franchise, that game last night surely further emphasized that even further. I'm not sure even if we took the best defensive prospect in the draft, it will change our team to an extent where we can compete with the like of KC, the Rams, the Saints, the Steelers or the Pats. Those are the best teams in this league and they all have elite QBs. I don't think we are close enough to those teams to say adding a few sacks here or there or getting better at stopping the run will get us close to them, it may move us from a 8-8 team to a 9-7 or 10-6 one, that may be enough for some people but no me personally.

Edit: Oh and I not saying that if we took Lock or any other QB in the first we would instantly be, it's a swing for the fences though a fence that we'll never get over with our current QB room.

Let. Tannehill play next year so we can stink some more and get the number 1 pick overall.

1. Qb

After seeing the game last night until we have a guy like that we arent going anywhere. Id draft the best qb I could get my hands on every year to find the guy.

I mean, we can all agree that if Fitzpatrick were signed for next year he should start over Tannehill, right? He's getting old, but on a 1 year-deal he would be a good gap QB until the 2020 draft.

no. he would be good to have as a backup, but he’s too erratic to be your starter.
