Gesicki runs so awkwardly and his style of play is asking for a major injury. Up to this point, it looks like another bad 2nd round pick and in no way looks like an nfl tight end. Smythe looks way more fluid and should get more reps. To me, Gesicki is one of the worst players on the roster. I feel like Miami has a hard time viewing talent and player reps. They ask guys to do things they're not good at instead of using their strengths to their advantage. Fitzpatrick should be starting at FS. Drake needs more touches, not just runs but definitely in the passing game. McMillan is just plain bad. I know he's coming off an injury but he clearly looks forced into the starting spot. He plays lost out there more often than not. The talent Miami has isnt being used right and guys that shouldnt be on the field are being forced there based purely on when they were drafted. Gase seems to fall in love with guys and sticks with them too long.

I think they need to welcome in to some easy throws over the middle and let them heat up. Then we'll know if he has it or not. Unfortunately, soured on the coach and is utilization of talent so I'm not sure what we have in him if anything.

Gesicki can’t block...but that’s more code for he’s soft. No way in hell he should have let that little safety hit him like that to make him fumble. He’s always easily bumped off his routes. Dude is a disappointment. I was happy when Miami drafted him. I still think he can get better but man what a weak rookie season

Dude! The defenders helmet was right on the ball. It was a good play! Gesicki could have protected the ball better, but strength or toughness had very little impact on that play.

I saw one good block when running at the RE. I cannot comment on any other blocks. You are jumping the gun on a rookie that was expected to need seasoning.

He does look awkward, like his legs get tangled or something. I think he heeds a movement coach or something.

Let's see if Gesicki can improve his strength to block better after a big offseason in the gym. In college he had good hands and speed, but he has been given very limited opportunities in the NFL to date. Yes, he needs to get stronger to be able to block better, but we knew that when he got drafted. That fumble in the last game was ugly but hopefully he learns from it to secure the ball tighter. This fumble does not tie in with his excellent catch % at Penn State - maybe it was just an isolated error.
However, the OP makes an excellent point that we should see more of Durham Smythe. He has effectively been starved of opportunities, but if Gase has little current faith in Gesicki, let's see what big Smythe can do.

I have 2 views on this.

1) Our head coach has yet to effectively use a tight end 3 years in. Yes some of it is a talent issue, but his play calling doesnt have a lot of tight end looks in it. He doesnt seem to like running seem routes and verticals for some reason, which I find odd.

2) I said this at the draft, we drafted the athlete Gesicki not the football player Gesicki. He doesnt seem to have a lot of awareness or a good feel of the game at this point. He was just able to out athlete people in college. It will take him a few years to become a football player. He will need to learn to run a full route tree and feel the soft spots in a defense. His ability to figure this out will make him either an all-pro or a bust IMHO.

You got that right. Square peg, round hole

We need to look at him as a really BIG (kinda dorky) WR and

forget this crap about him being a "conventional" N F L TE with blocks

and any semblance of a power game. Just put the dude out wide, let him use his

speed and size (his "superior athletics") and thow the pig up HIGH in the air and

let his chops take over! I mean who's gonna cover his ask?

Some li'l sissy CB! LOL. Some slow stubby LB?

For gawds snakes FOCUS on the mismatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was on-board with the Gesicki pick until..... he looks undersized and I'm being serious. NFL undersized for a TE means he lacks the body mass to take the pounding. Getting open is one thing but he looks like one tackle away from IR. I watched the Eagles game and their rookie TE and thought....?.... that's what I wanted or expected with Gesicki. Oh well. Another busted flush.

I wanted Goedert all along. The guy that actually dominated in college. Yes I know he played at a smaller college but he was and still is the better prospect. I do agree that they're not using Gesicki the right way but even if they did, I still say we drafted the wrong TE. Yet another mistake by our FO/HC

I hated the giraffe pick when it happened and think even less of it now. Drafting a TE who can't block in the second round. Brilliant.
