I have no idea why anyone is downplaying this. It was not one spur of the moment action and then successfully calmed down. Hunt was so enraged and out of control he made multiple attempts including overpowering his friends. Then the kicking incident.

In total it is difficult to believe we saw everything that happened that night, or that it is not representative of Kareem Hunt in other situations where he is angered.

The fact that it was a group incident and with friends willing to lie for him is further damning evidence, IMO.

I'd be shocked if he's not back at some point (not this year). The difference between him and Ray Rice (besides the fact that Rice's was even worse) is that Ray Rice was already fading vs a 23 year old Hunt. Dallas had no problem signing Greg Hardy and what he did was abominable. Reuben Foster, etc.

It's the video imo. I'm not saying I don't think Hunt should be allowed to play but what team is really going to take that lifeitme PR hit? Maybe Baltimore? Seattle? There would have to be a real need at the position. Maybe he can make it back next year.

honestly after watching the video, if he wouldn't lied about it and didn't have the repeat incident this summer punching a man I could just see the NFL giving him a nice half year suspension or something. UNLESS there is no possible other way out of the situation or you're in danger then there is never a time to put your hands on a female. but I too really was expecting this video to be a lot worse, sorry if that makes me a bad person. you see the likes of Ray R and Mixon KO'ing females. Him shoving the guy in the back was dumb and that's what caused him to launch into the girl. the kick looked more like a "sit back down foot shove" (which isn't right, but I was expecting a curb stomp or something with the reactions ive read) raiders need a RB and you're "taking" from a division rival. Wouldn't be shocked to see him in the silver and black next season if he is reinstated.

once again UNLESS there is no possible other way out of the situation or you're in danger then there is never a time to put your hands on a female so don't think im downplaying the incident, but I think everything else...the lying and the repeat is what ultimately lead to his dismissal more than this video.

I'm just growing very tired of America's punishment mindset. It doesn't seem like we care about fixing anything - only punishing. Or, maybe the majority is naive enough to think that if we punish enough it will fix a given problem. There should absolutely be discipline for actions like Hunt's, but it feels - to me - like we have no idea how to actually address the problem, so our gut reaction is to banish these people from our sight and call it good.

When you add the layer of video vs no video, it's especially concerning. People who have done much, much worse (many we've mentioned in the thread) didn't receive a fraction of the outrage. To my understanding, the NFL has no training program for this sort of thing. I can already hear people saying, "You really need training to not put your hands on women?" I don't. Most of us don't. Most NFL players don't; however, through a confluence of factors, some clearly do.

Police have a much higher rate of domestic abuse (not Hunt's situation but related) than NFL players or the general population. Somehow, they escape the ire of the public. I've never even heard someone suggest that police should lose their jobs because of domestic violence. I don't bring this up to say, "Well, police are worse, so . . ." I bring it up to illustrate how inconsistent we are in our reaction - how fickle and simple-minded we are as a mass.

As long as men create systems for themselves where they aren't allowed to show any emotion outside of anger/rage, this will continue to happen. As long as we perpetuate ideas that disrespect is an attack on our character, this will continue to happen. It's disheartening to see people embrace the system that creates abusive situations with one hand while casting judgment with the other. I don't believe that most even care to fix the problem. Hunt's actions, and the much-worse actions of other players and police, are symptoms of an unbalanced (at best) person. Most of these people are not sociopaths or psychopaths, and they're entirely fixable. Rather than creating an environment where real change can happen at an individual and societal level, we rage at the lastest story, demand our pint of blood, and we forget about it until we reference it as a comparison point the next time someone does something similar. This goes beyond this issue. We do the same thing with everything, and we stay broken - with no plan or realistic hope to change.

The fact that he lied to them and his history, is why I think they acted so quickly. They may have even had conversations saying you need to be truthful with us and if you aren’t and if we find out otherwise...

These teams pay their marketing and PR teams a fortune. They'll wait for it to fade a little bit from memory (which isn't very long in this country) and then a team will sign him and promote it as a redemption story. If they even need to do that at that point. Dallas didn't bother. The Racistskins haven't. KC completely disregarded it with Hill. The 49ers ignored the escalating violence with Ray McDonald until they couldn't any longer, then the Bears had no problem signing him (he was arrested again within 2 months). The Seahawks signed AJ Jefferson despite being on probation for choking his girlfriend.

A 23 year old, Pro Bowl RB? They only way he isn't back next year is if he's in jail. I just hope it's not with the Dolphins.

(Note: I'm not saying I think he should be back any time soon, just that he probably will be.)

I guess this will be an unpopular opinion but based on the video this doesn't seem as big of a deal as I expected. It's certainly nothing like the Ray Rice video. The woman could've left but she keeps approaching and possibly antagonizing Hunt and nothing Hunt does compares to the force used by Rice. I doubt this woman suffered any injuries. Hunt should be punished, but I don't see anything more than a slap on the wrist being proportionate to the crime.

I agree. It's something that needs to be addressed. He didn't handle it well, and there need to be guidelines that make it clear that you can't get physical with women at all, but it seems that people have no capacity for nuance. Calling Hunt a woman beater (which is what many are doing) based on the video is completely absurd. I've seen multiple people say that he shouldn't ever be allowed to play in the NFL again. If that's the case, should we - I don't know - execute people like Ray Rice and Tyreek Hill? Or, should way say that once you touch a woman, it's all the same? If Hunt broke every bone in her face, would these people be any more outraged than they already are?

1. This is not domestic violence. I've seen people such as Jemele Hill, who is usually decent, mislabel it as such.
2. Hunt did not beat or brutalize this woman.
3. I've seen people say that he's trained in violence and cite case law that people trained in violence (mixed martial artists, boxers, etc.) are treated as weapons when they fight. There was no fight here. If Hunt (a 5'10 215 lbs) pushed this woman with any force, she would have went flying.
4. When talking about Hunt's chances of playing in the league again, people are (often) saying that the main difference is that Hunt is still good, and that's why he'll likely play again. If you don't understand the difference between shoving a stranger you don't want around and knocking out your girlfriend/fiance, you should read a ****ing book.
5. I've seen - repeatedly - you don't "hit" women. Hunt never hit her. If you can't maintain your outrage while accurately describing the act, maybe you need to reexamine that outrage.

Again, men should NOT get physical with women at all. He had countless ways to handle the situation better, and he didn't, and for that, he should face some type of punishment. This lynch mob is something else, though.

I know I will get roasted for this, but I would stash him for next year and trade Drake for a 3rd round pick in the off-season, there is people who have done worse who are still in the NFL. This is a kid who lead the league in rushing as a ROOKIE!!! it's only common sense to explore the situation and possibly get a top 5 running back mad cheap and for free.
