Our Best Chance At A Franchise Qb Is...

I’m guessing that trading away our 1st in 2019 could get us another 1st and a 2nd in 2020.

Using the 2 1st picks and one of our seconds could be enough ammo to get us a QB even if we have a mediocre season in 2019

Gase confirms Ryan Tannehill will start Wk 17

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Ryan Tannehill will start Week 17.

With Tannehill's future in some question, there was a thought the Dolphins would see what they have in David Fales. The answer is almost certainly not much, and Gase said he wants to play to win. That makes sense with his job possibly on the line. Even though he will play, Tannehill will not be a fantasy option in Buffalo.
.
Gase is trying everything he can. Too little too late. If we tank in Buffalo it will be better for us long term.

I’m not interested in Gases last ditch efforts to stay in Miami

People need to stop think that drafting a QB in 2020 is a guarantee that we'll get a great QB. There's no such thing as a sure thing in the draft. Some of those QB's could get hurt or regress. I'm sick of waiting for the "perfect moment" to draft the "perfect QB"

I could not agree more. Yes be on the lookout for a great QB, take some calculated risks, but there are no "sure things" and sacrificing a whole draft for ANY quarterback is foolish. Here is a list of first rounders since 2000. A lot of sure things in there that never panned out as franchise QBs. Besides a lot of BAD QBs, there is a whole lot of mediocrity. A whole bunch of guys no better than Tannehill. You can't afford to risk it all.

We drafted 1 of those guys. I'd rather keep trying. Or would you rather keep drafting the Teddy Ginns at 8?

yikes thats a startling list...shows what a crapshoot a rookie qb is

I don't always watch prime time games unless we were in them. But last night was different.
Mahome's vs Wilson. They were both fun to watch play. I cannot remember a Dolphin QB with the skills those two guys have. Marino I will always remember!
Last nights game was fun. I want to watch fun games. Fun Dolphin games that we are in, week in and week out.

We drafted 1 of those guys. I'd rather keep trying. Or would you rather keep drafting the Teddy Ginns at 8?

No, I don't want to keep drafting Ginns at number 8. That said, I would take Ted Ginn over JaMarcus Russell, or EJ Manuel, or Brady Quinn at any spot in the draft.

I said we need to look for quarterbacks. I am only warning against what seems to be a popular sentiment among many on this board. Something like trading our #1 and #2, plus a 1 and a 2 from the next season on a QB who looks great in college. There are 45 first round QBs on that list. I count four or five true franchise guys. That is about a 10% hit rate. Philosophically, I can't agree with trading the farm for a ten percent chance of winning.

Haven't seen a lot of him, but I'm on the Tyler Murray bandwagon. CK talked about him on the draft forum and I went back and looked at his highlights. Defenses simply can't contend with his athleticism. He's short, listed as 5-10, but I think he's the type of talent that opens everything up. He's probably a better version of Lamar Jackson, more accurate and just as athletic. Runs like a running back, with terrific moves and vision. So many big plays with his legs.

Here in the Bay Area they've talked about him quite a bit because I think the Oakland A's drafted him. Will he play baseball or football?

I definitely don't think you wait to find a quarterback. Draft one in 2019, give him a chance to play, evaluate and then possibly look toward 2020 as well. I always thought the team could win with Tannehill, but I also think the team would need to have a very talented offensive line to make up for his deficiencies.

If you have a shot at an elite QB you take him, they don't come around very often. I don't see how you can justify passing on say Peyton Manning because you feel the o-line sucks. I would sign off on trading the whole draft if it mean we got an elite QB.

Agreed.
"Our Best Chance At A Franchise Qb Is... LUCK," and I don't mean Ollie. A lot of teams have been trying to get a 'franchise' QB for a long time and failed, including Miami. To make sure no one misunderstands, I'm not against strategic attempts at a QB. Just too many people make it sound like it's as likely as picking out a head of lettuce. And far too many people minimize the part luck plays in any sport for any team. Most important is taking advantage of luck when it comes around.

You need to get a good GM in here who can identify QB talent before going all out to get one. I wouldn't trust either Grier or Tannenbaum to find that guy. So get rid of those guys first then get a real GM. If that guy believes their is a guy worth trading up for or feels it is better to trade for future picks then you do so.

Well we have never traded out before. It takes guts to do so.

Everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die
