Hayden Fox Assessment: W17

I know it is bad for a fan to root against his team but I knew and hoped for a shellacking today.
Hopefully Ross will finally wake up and fire the 3 stooges and get a new QB.
This team is a absolute joke from top to bottom. They never show any heart at all.
I really can't believe how bad this team is.
T baum and co. has set this team back for years to come.
Gase and Burke have actually made the team regress on both sides of the ball.

A total house cleaning is what needs to be done.
The people in charge of running this team is a true embarrassment and are completely incompetent.
I really hope tomorrow on black Monday that Ross clean's house once and for all.
Us Dolphin fans deserve better.

Thanks Hayden, great analysis as usual. Very sobering today. How does this so called team move forward?

My take is later this week. I am truly putting my thoughts together. My answer a few weeks ago was fire Burke and find a new QB, but things are have exploded in bad way.

I agree with that first point. Gase has some good qualities, but it has all fallen apart hard and ugly. The situation has become untenable.

On the second point, unfortunately I think Josh Allen looks pretty good. No, he's not a very accurate right now, but proper quarterback coaching can improve that. And he's the most freakishly gifted quarterback athlete in football.

Wait for DC's to study him this offseason (maybe Burke should have studied the Pats last week). Accuracy is not acquired through practice. Plus, more defenders will do what Kiko and Branch did today to him. He is not even close on many passes.

Totally disagree with your assessment of Josh Allen. I think he is going to be a really good one, if not a great one.
From what I've seen all the rookie QB's have had a few accuracy issues from Mayfield to Jackson.
That can be corrected over time.
But he's strong as a bull, has a rifle for an arm and is faster than almost everyone on the Dolphins defense.
He's going to be a good one and we will be facing him twice a year for the next 10 years plus.

Complete more than 55% of your passes and check back to me. Ripping Miami's defense today is not a feather in the cap, my friend.

Quarterbacks can improve their throwing accuracy by improving their throwing mechanics from the feet up to the shoulders. Allen is absolutely a player with room to grow in that area, as he is often inconsistent and sloppy with his feet. Tom Brady, when he's had accuracy issues in his career, has responded by working intensely with his private mechanics coach. Every time, it has helped him.

I'm not saying Allen is going to be a great quarterback, but what I am saying is that I think he's looked just fine for a rookie and that he's possibly the most athletically gifted quarterback in football team.

I hope for our sakes that he turns into the next Jamarcus Russell, but I see him as being better than that.

I've been watching the Dolphins since the early 90s and I can't recall seeing the offense this incompetent. I don't get why so many times Tannehill is taking sacks on 3rd down. Is he not recognizing where the blitz is coming from, are they calling the wrong protections, not calling hot routes, adjusting protection, etc. Is he not able to audible out of the called play. IF Tannehill is still a Dolphin in 2019 he's got to get serious competition for the starting job or Miami better draft an early round QB to learn for a year under the vet. When I see much younger players lighting up NFL records in their first season playing (Mahomes with 50TD passes) it points to the fact that Tannehill's ceiling is too low to carry a team into the post season. He can win with a great defense and running game ala Bortles on the Jags but Miami doesn't have either of those components and won't for some time.

Also glad to move on from Devante Parker. Too often injured and even when he played he was invisible far too often. Potential but no heart to maximize it. Shame but another player in a growing list of 1st round busts for Miami.

I don’t even want to contemplate Ryan Tannehill being the starting QB for this team in 2019.

It just has to end.

Nice write up, Hayden. Agree w everything this week. “Couldn’t hit a cow in the ass w a banjo” - that was good.

Yes.

Hes never going to be Tom Brady. Hes big and Fast, that's It. Miami has pathetic corners not named Howard. Hes not lazy like Russell. But hes more Cam Newton than Brady. Better have a team around him

The only real QB I saw Allen make all game was that nice TD throw on Armstrong when the game was in contention. That's one of those QB in a groove throws where he's just on the same page with his receiver and the timing is perfect. Other than that, there's a lot that bad defense can do to make someone look good.

Great write up. The fact is, until we get a QB we’re not going to be competitive. Tannehill has proven all of his supporters wrong this year. He would be a great #2 QB...... But as a starter, he just doesn’t have it. As has been mentioned before, this is a bad year for QBs in the draft. I wouldn’t spend crazy money on one in free agency either. I honestly think the house cleaning should start now. Suck up a 2-14 year next year and get Tua in the draft. Then let our new coach run the show. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

One thing I forgot to mention about that Josh Allen/Jerome Baker 30 yard touchdown run, after watching it so often: Charles Harris was so enamored with his patented stationary spin move that he attempted it not once, but twice on that play.

True story. He spun and the Bills right tackle essentially laughed at him. Then Harris spun again.

Josh Allen may have been laughing as he took off into the nearby wide open spaces.

It's definitely time to hit the reset button. The best thing this franchise can do if find the right coach and quarterback combo.

Personally I favor a veteran coach who has the connections to put a good coaching staff together.

As far as philosophy goes, I want to put an emphasis on physicality and smart players.

I would like to keep Grier. Otherwise clean house.

I tend to agree that Allen looked pretty good for a rookie QB and certainly should give Bills fans some optimism......but I think Hayden in right in the wait and see what happens next year approach. We have seen many good rookie QB's struggle and really falter in year two of their careers as defenses now have tape to watch and know what to expect from him. To me, the proper defense of him is containment and let him throw it...….

What is criminal though, is that in our two games with the Bills, we learned nothing and did nothing to contain him. We knew he has a tendency to run and we still continue to allow him to do it. We lost containment and gave him the edges all game(s) long. A lot of his success against us was more about Burke and his lack of discipline and game planning than Allen's abilities.
