I, personally, with zero qualifications, would have fired Chris Grier too. Or at least demoted him to scouting department.

Mainly, because we are losing out on great potential coaching candidates who want more or total control of the roster.

Why are we selling ourselves short on potentially great HC (or GM for that matter) candidates for Chris Grier? Is he really that great and will turn us into Super Bowl contenders?

You don’t demote him. You just clean the slate. Get a proven guy or protege from a proven process.

I’m not a big fan of guys that got their start because of dad. Got their break just because of that. Tommy Boy Syndrome.

The other side of the coin is he has paid his dues and worked his way up from scout to head of college personnel to GM. Lots to be said for this.

But to think he doesn’t have a hand in twenty years of failure, well, that’s a bit short sighted.

This is the absolute most important position in the entire organization because this individual will set the course for the franchise for the next 5 minimum years maybe longer. You don’t want to get this wrong.

Let him have his spot light. It's okay. He just needs to become a good caretaker, instead of thinking he is a big shot, because he is not. He cannot wing it.

If you have a dysfunctional organization and you want to change it, you don't promote from within, you clean house !!! This is just another in a long line of half measures this idiot owner is famous for.

I can’t think of any recent coaches that have succeeded long term with absolute power, at least no one without the initials of BB.

As far as firing Grier, I have no idea what moves were forced on him by gase, and what players he wanted to keep vs get rid of etc that tannebaum paid or didn’t pay. Maybe Grier kept tidy records of every move he made or wanted to make to build this roster and made notes when he was given friction. That being the case... it’s quite possible he’s going to be a great gm with absolute roster power.

You’re making way too much sense. Dysfunctional org....don’t promote from within.....clean house, especially the guy who’s had his fingers in the mess the longest

Sounds like a no brainer, but ross, so there’s that

I think there is a reason why you keep a guy around after you clean house. Perhaps Grier was in Ross's ear about Gase and he didn't listen. Could be that Grier wanted to do things a certain way but Mike T and Gase overruled him. We don't know the whole story.
