The Dolphins plan to interview Darren Rizzi, the team’s special teams coordinator and associate head coach, for the position vacated by Adam Gase early next week.

And Miami players are advocating for Rizzi.

“Riz is the ultimate players coach,” Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake told the Palm Beach Post Wednesday. “He has a way of balancing the personality of his players while getting the most from them. He’s intense but compassionate and that’s what makes him a great coach.”

Exactly! I don't want someone on the current staff to be promoted to head coach. We need someone from the outside that can bring in new ideas. If they promote Rizzi along with keeping Grier, what has really changed?
I'm not advocating for Rizzi, but, from the impression I get, the HC is not going to be installing his philosophy anyway. He will be installing Grier's philosophy, using coordinators, picked by Grier.

The sooner ppl accept that fact, the sooner we can move these discussions in to the realm of reality.

I'm not all in on a lifetime ST coach as a HC, but I have no doubt his game day decisions, and clock mgmt would be fine.

Attitude reflects leadership. After Gase's ego, no wonder they like Rizzi.

Its the players who play, not coaches. If players like their coach they care more.

Im still intrigued by Richard though.

Sorry but hiring Rizzi means most of the current staff will be retained. That's not a change in philosophy. It's more of the same.

That's an assumption, not based in the reality I see.

Grier IS CALLING THE SHOTS, irrespective of who the HC is. He will install the philosophy. He will hire the coordinators who reflect HIS philosophy. The HC will schedule, and run practices, game plan the big picture, and make the game day decisions.

He will not be bringing in His own guys.

You may disagree with this, but it us the way it will be.

What are you basing that on? I've never heard of a head coach who doesn't pick his staff....

You are clueless. A head coach always gets to hire his own assistants. Grier won't have any say in that. Grier will pick the head coach and let that person hire his own coaching staff.

No it wont be the way it will be. How do you know this? Grier is hiring the head coach. The head coach hires his staff. No head coach is going to want a head job where he doesn’t pick his own staff. Just ridiculous statement man. Sure they will consult about it but Grier will tell him to choose his staff.

I don’t know of any other examples but John Harbaugh was elevated from ST To HC in Baltimore. That may be the end of the comparison but it’s worth noting.

Personally I wouldn’t hate Rizzi but it wouldn’t be my first choice. I’m undecided right now.

I wouldnt mind Rizzi, I don't know who else will want this job.
But, lets not decide based off what the lazy, whiny players want. The Dolphins have a bunch of soft players, these guys should have zero say in the next HC.

We shall see, but I don't think that's the plan.

Rizzi has been apart of player development for years..

No.

Also, it's obvious players will feel that way. They love coaches no matter how bad.
