Both he and Ross understood and agreed that if Gase remained, he would continue to try to win. Now.

That’s how it is for a fourth-year coach. You must win or you’re fired because fans aren’t going to be patient.

Gase had already planned to fire defensive coordinator Matt Burke and had a plan for replacing him. He also had decided that he would move on from quarterback Ryan Tannehill and sign a bridge quarterback and probably draft a rookie for the future — assuming he could identify the right draft pick.

And that’s a solid plan for a team trying to win.

But the Dolphins are going in an opposite direction now because that’s what Ross has been convinced is best.

So Gase no longer made sense for the Dolphins. And the Dolphins no longer made sense for Gase.

It's all good unless you're the owner, and the owner thinks you're not the right guy (Gase) and you have to go.

If i'm trying to buy 3 more years of job security, that would have been the first thing out of my mouth.

Nothing in there about Gase giving up OC. IMO, THAT'S what got him fired

The bit about Tannenbaum is burying the lead. This is a full on dish about the fractured Gase/Ross dynamic and future path for the Dolphins.

Well done Armando. But I might suggest a better title.

People looking for a full tear down and complete rebuild are going to like this article.

The Herald keeps telling me I'm out of stories for the month. No F'in way. I rarely click on the link. Any work around other than paying for it like I probably should?

Gase shoulda fired Burke weeks ago. Winning teams that kicked our ass fired coordinators for much less (Vikings).

Gase also shouldn't be sitting on the bench like a ****ing loser when his god-awful defense is out there giving up record amounts of yardage trying to drudge up another wr screen that won't ****ing work. That was the worst.

And you think offensive guru's wouldn't sign 35 yo guys to the O line and then act shocked when they finish the year on the IR and make excuses about it all year. GMAFB.

I think Gase is a titan in his mind and he believes Manning was a product he produced and he could/can produce it again!

But his biggest problem is self-destruction!

If it works. Stop using it.

The hallmark of his teams -- winning the meaningless ones and getting BLOWN OUT when it matters!

I'm seriously gonna miss that!

"Gase had already planned to fire defensive coordinator Matt Burke and had a plan for replacing him. He also had decided that he would move on from quarterback Ryan Tannehill and sign a bridge quarterback and probably draft a rookie for the future — assuming he could identify the right draft pick."

In Gase's defense, he did appear to identify Baker Mayfield.

If you believe the article, Gase wasn't going to work here because he didn't have humility. It's possible this humbling experience leads to a good HC for another team.

After the 2016 season when the Dolphins needed a serious upgrade to their defense, Gase decided he could make the offense operate on the cheap while the defense added players. So the coach practically ignored the need for guards.

And Ross challenged him about that.

And Gase yelled at the owner about knowing more about football than he did. Multiple sources say a high-ranking club official had to intervene and tell Gase he could not speak to the owner — his boss — that way.

WTF? Who acts like this with their boss? Be a professional.

On a side note, I really hate Salguero's writing style. He writes like an entitled douche in a livejournal blog...

For example:

“I’d like to say all you guys were wrong because I didn’t make a decision until probably last night, after that game, thinking about it,” he told reporters Monday morning.

(Look, I don’t know if anyone reported Ross had already made up his mind to fire Gase or not before Buffalo, which would have been wrong. But a man who has been wrong time and time again chiding other people about being wrong is really tone deaf.)
