Dolphins Expected To Explore Dealing Qb Ryan Tannehill

What would be a fair value trade value for him?

Third rounder at minimum. The Browns/Bills set the floor on negotiations. But we’re negotiating from a position of strength for once, so I expect a second for him.

He is not getting cut. He will be traded or he will be on the roster. The Mike Tennenbaum days are over with resource mismanagement. He is a 7 year starter at QB, which is the most important position on the field. He has had stretches of good play and stretches of terrible play. A team like Washington, NYG, or Jacksonville will take him in a second. He is not going for a 4th or 5th. We’ll know more in a few weeks, but I have zero doubts we get a second day pick for him, or we’ll see him in training camp.
Well, I hope you're right that we get a 2nd day pick for him. We'll see, indeed.

Nope. How could his cap hit be higher? Simply put, people cry and bitch and moan about player contracts, but don't ever bother to look around the NFL and see what market value is for those players. Tannehill's contract is actually a relative value for that position.
Well, when I look at Cap hits in 2019, he's 6th highest.

How are we negotiating from a position of strength? Good God. That's a mind boggling perspective!

We've told people we're moving on from him. We have no back up. He has a huge cap hit. He's 7 years in and teams still aren't sure what he is. He's now got a bad injury history and has missed games every year for the past 3.

That's a position of strength?!

I actually loved RW coming out of Wisconsin, loved his low INT percentage.

I still like RW as a QB and as a person, but the people that prop him up as this great QB are the ones that piss me off.

He isn't HoF great, and that will be shown again in this playoffs like every other one he has been in other than the super team in '03 where he wasn't asked to do much or whenever it was.

That's fair... Of course "greatness" is a subjective criteria -- and it's doubtful any one player would succeed in ANY system or

with ANY team. So the ONLY way you can really access a players production etc. is based on the team/system they play in.

That said, I think it's fair to say RW has been "above average" as an NFL QB.

Beyond that -- the ONLY QB I've ever watched that was certifiably "GREAT" and

could win despite some obvious team issues was Dan Marino.

2019 Russell Wilson is not 2013 Russell Wilson or even 2016 Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks developed him properly. They surrounded him with a good defense and a running game and let him play to his strengths while developing him into a great quarterback. He is now a great quarterback. The next time he has to make a play to win a Super Bowl, he'll probably do it. He is no longer a guy being asked to ride on the bus. He is now fully capable of driving the bus.

Every team that wants to develop a quarterback should look at what Pete Carroll did there and take notes. Take a lot of notes. The Dolphins ought to be the first team in the line with a notepad and a pencil.

Might want to revisit that after the FA period...
That's true. I guess, we'll just have to wait and see. I personally don't see anything higher than a 4th in a trade. We'll see. I'll be happy if we get more.

The free agent market at QB is pretty weak, there might be a market for Tannehill. I'm not expecting much, getting any pick in return for him would be a win in my opinion.

Absolutely we’re negotiating from a position of strength. Who cares what the media says. We have no alternative to Tannehill at the moment, he is affordable, and he plays the most important position on the field. We can easily keep him as a starting QB next year. We don’t HAVE to trade him. So if you want him, make an offer we can’t refuse.

What makes you think we’re in a position of weakness?

I really don't think Tannehill is a complete piece of ****. Everyone is going off the last 3 games and I agree no matter what the circumstances he was about as awful as I've seen the QB play be here. Really ugly. But he's shown he can be a somewhat effective starter in the NFL. It will be interesting to see what happens. Is it out of the question our new HC doesn't want him as his bridge? I'd be OK with that as long as we aren't in win now mode. Basically the overall plan should be stockpiling resources to draft a QB in 2020. As long as they stick to that plan I really don't care who the QB is in 2019.

This is a smarter approach than tanking. Tanking is great on message forums but lets say we start shitty QB X and he plays out of his mind for 5 or 6 games, we just blew the tank. A new HC, especially a rookie is going to want to show something and will be playing to win regardless of the talent level. Stockpiling resources and going all in for a trade up is the better bet. At that point if you believe in the QB you are going for I'd be willing to trade about anyone or anything.

Man you guys are harsh
Ok if you think he has got to go but after years of Cleo Lemons, etc... the guy was a warrior for 7 years with us and had some pretty good games with trash coaches and garbage OL's

Not much class in this thread so far IMO

I agree. He has been one of the toughest qb er have ever had. People forget how he got beat up in his first couple years, and never complained. I am surprised he even survived. Yea he isn't Dan marino and has shown to be a decent qb at best, but he gave all he had. For that alone I give him mad props. Never complained, never heard him call out his oline or throw the wack ass receivers and coaches under the bus. Yes it's time for a change, but much respect to that man

Crazy how rival executives are saying we can only get like a 5th rounder for the great Tannehill still in his prime years. You’d think we can get at least a first the way some certain individuals talked him up lol

I do think that the team tellign people "He won't be here, period" significantly weakens our negotiating leverage. That's just reality. It's like the Baltimore Ravens and John Harbaugh. If Miami is serious about pursuing Harbaugh -- and Harbaugh wants to come here -- then the Ravens are going to get a lot less in return for Harbaugh than they would have if they had just kept their damn mouths shut earlier in the season.

With that said, I also think people here underestimate a potential market for Tannehill. It really depends on who winds up coaching which teams and which quarterbacks get cut, but Washington, Denver, and the Raiders could all be very interested.

Crazy how rival executives are trying to downplay the trade value of a player on the block for the Miami Dolphins. I can't possibly imagine why they would do that.
