Howard Officially Among League’s Best, But Does He Fit In Dolphins’ Long-term Plans?

.
And HOW DO YOU PROPOSE we become competitive????

Just by....... waiting???

Hahahaha.....yeesh, where is your strategy?? Endure your pain like a man son
How does trading a 25 year old elite cornerback make sense. The cap wont be a problem and in 3 years he will still only be 28.

We have our left tackle and number one CB already, be thankful for it and build around them.

wife: "Whats your plan?"
husban: "Honey!, whenever something good is going to happen, Im going to **** up as best I can so we maintain our painful and miserable life..."

Pay him.

Get it done.

Unless we have a "5 or 6 season plan," he will still be in his prime when we're competing.

WTF is wrong with people? The Fins didn't go 1-15. Ignore this "new path" BS. This team with the right coach can do much better. I'm not saying Super Bowl yet, but they can compete by making the right moves and this would be a idiotic one. The one thing you don't do is trade away your best younger players. And for those who talk about tanking, which I hate that term. Go root for another team. That's for losers.

Having a top corner fits into EVERY team's plans.

Having the highest paid corner in the NFL does NOT fit into every team's plans.

Either sign him to a reasonable deal or trade him for a first and another pick. You don't break the bank for a corner when your team is rebuilding and about to win less than 6 games the next two years.

Can't help but think you pay this guy huge money and watch how many games he misses.

Tie his money to his performance and the number of games he plays. Amazingly, he won't miss a game unless he's very hurt. Even if we extended him this offseason, he would still only be a couple of years into his deal if we have a two-year turnaround plan. Letting go of him would be especially ignorant if we let go of Tannehill and free up that money. By the time we are ready to compete, his deal will be rather mundane for a top-flight quarterback.

Sign him.

Seriously, people are acting like we’re just trading Howard for a QB. You can have both.

He can’t fit in.

It’s gonna take trading players like this short-term, to build for the long term. Accept reality.

Everyone want to trade away trash and expect gold nuggets in return

Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die

Does anyone possibly think that we can build a young, strong and competitive organization without some pain???

For shi*s sake. This is what pain looks like!!!!!

If you don’t want the medicine, just go around in circles for another 2 decades.

In the meantime, take your injection like a man
I understand what you are saying and we need to get dead weight off the team, but there are certain players you want to keep and build around. Tunsil, Fitz, Howard, Drake,Baker(depending on the scheme) and dare I say(I can hear the boos already)Gesicki. Maybe we got lucky and he doesn't try to rape the team in contract negotiations, but don't hold your breath.

Does this scenario make it clearer:

We draft a future HOF Qb and know it in his 2nd year. Do we trade him away for a draft pick because we can't / don't want to pay him top money?

Really like him but what's the price teams are willing to pay? Anything is on the table at this point. We are going into a full rebuild. The time is now if we are going to trade him. We don't have a QB on this team right now. We are looking at a terrible defensive line. We need oline help as well. Those three position groups should be rebuilt before making him the highest paid QB in the league. With that said, it depends on what he can bring in trade value which I'm not sure what he would fetch. I wouldn't do it for anything less than a first but I don't think he gets that much love. Now if we can package him to move up in this current draft to pickup Murray or a Tua next year that's where we are cooking with something.

Might want to take those daddy issues to another forum.

 You guys make it too easy. The bullseye is so big even Tannehill could hit it.

Settle down, kid. I propose we become competitive by not getting rid our our homegrown talent. Just because big numbers are scary to morons doesn’t make the salary cap scary in reality. Teams are perfectly capable of keeping top players and continuing to build.

So, my strategy is pretty simple. Question is, what’s your dumb strategy for replacing Howard? And how do we replace Tunsil when it comes time to re-sign him, because god knows cap watchers are going to be whining then and posting all kinds of dumb bullshit reasons for letting him go. Then Fitz after that.

Well next year would make it about 18 years and counting.
Most of those 18 it was a few moves here or there but not an actual demolition. The only time they came close to a rebuild was 2008 but even then much of the team remained.
I get the point of blowing it up and starting over but it seems to me you can keep a few pieces while you assemble the new team. Yes he will be expensive but let's face it- there probably won't be too many other players collecting big checks for awhile and finding blue-chip CBs is pretty much a requirement in today's NFL.
