Why Aren't We Looking At Any College Head Coaches?

I would of loved to bring David Shaw in for a interview, but they may have reached out and he may have declined, as he has to all the NFL interviews in the past.

I think college coaches are less interested in moving up.

I would have interviewed Matt rhule

The Dolphins entire pool of candidates seemed to be rather uninspiring TBH. Not many experienced guys, and the ones who were didn’t even end up getting interviews. Seems like they zeroed in on Flores and Richard early on and it will be one of them in the end.

Well first of all, why the hell would Dabo Swinney take the Dolphins job? He's one of the top coaches in college football and has built the only team that can really challenge Alabama for dominance of the FBS. Just interviewing with Miami would be like a total step down for him.

As for other college coaches, I honestly think the Dolphins may have interviewed a couple, but kept it on the down low. Remember, coaches might want the interviewing experience, or may want to see if NFL teams are legitimately itnerested in them, but don't want it to be public knowledge that they are taking interviews because it hurts recruiting and then they have to deal with tons of public speculation about their futures.

Consider: Ross/Grier spent more than a day in Dallas, but apparently only spent a couple of hours interviewing Kris Richard. They spent a day in New Orleans for a brief interview with Dennis Allen (Dennis Allen! Come on!) and they have now spent a day in New Jersey. I think it's extremely possible that some college head coaches have had at least brief interviews.

Why would you want to work in the 3-years-and-out NFL when you can be the biggest man on campus with everyone kissing your ass for a decade?

The biggest issue with college coaches is that unless they have NFL ties it's tough to put a NFL staff together. Wait, that would be prefect in Miami as the last two coaches didn't put an NFL staff together either...

Exactly. Everyone acts like the NFL is this great promotion.

Great point! A coach can be mediocre for a decade in college.
