Dolphin Failure: Revisiting The Way Of The Wolf!

I agree 100%. We must get in the habit of drafting QB's. Now it is an absolute necessity, but the real test will be when we keep drafting QB's to groom. One of the top 5 QB's will be available in this draft, if we have targeting a mid-tier QB then trade down in the 1st and pickup another 2nd/3rd and have more ammunition to pickup another body for either line. I would suggest 3 DT/DE, 1 QB, 1 CB and 2 Guards in the draft this year.

the bottom line I do not think you draft qb every yr but if u see a top qb sliding or one u like in draft you take him. specially when u don't know if you got one. you cannot blame nobody except dolphins. we have pass a lot of good and top qb last 18 yr. this team act like they scare draft a good qb.

Don't know about drafting a QB every year but certainly more than 1 every 7+ years would be a good idea.
You still need to be tough in the trenches and be able to stop a 4th and 1 as well as pick up a yard when needed.
You still need playmakers on both sides of the ball who can change a game.
You still need a coaching staff who can adapt and change game plans when your original plan is not working.
Great teams are more than a great QB, just ask Marino.

I am not GM but I feel I could do better job than dolphins have done last18 yr, in draft dept without leaving office. mel kipper give you all detail on players and internet. that all I need.

Rodgers needed years to be ready. We would’ve got him killed or run out of town long before that. Brady and Brees is a different story. Offensive linemen have one of two problems when they get here. They either can’t block or can’t stay healthy. Tannehill was good too, but we ruined him.

The best example is outset of the franchise. The Dolphins drafted Bob Griese early in round one in 1967 despite doing the same thing with quarterback Rick Norton one year earlier during the first draft in franchise history.

Imagine how much Dolphins history changes if we had been patient with Rick Norton. Shula would have been scrambling for a quarterback and might not have relocated in the first place. He later emphasized that one of the things that attracted him to the job were all the young star players already on the roster, including Bob Griese.

I'm not sure there is a secret formula. Brady was a skinny part time starter on a very good team. Still difficult to understand why he slipped that far. His college numbers are fine. Brunell was a part time starter on a dominant college team, one of the best defenses ever. Mostly a runner. He was seldom required to pass and when he did he was not particularly accurate. I could understand why he slipped, but it was quickly obvious in the pros that he had more potential as a passer than was evident in college.

I always like major college sleepers above small school flails. It simply makes more sense. Those guys were higher rated to begin with. That's how they ended up at major programs instead of scrambling for any school to take them. All of those guys who Wolf drafted were from bigger schools, like Detmer from BYU and Brunell from Washington and Hasselbeck from Boston College and Brooks from Virginia. Prescott was from Mississippi State while Russell Wilson was primarily at North Carolina State before spending one season at Wisconsin as grad transfer. Foles was from Arizona and picked in the third round.

I'll read the smaller school scouting reports but my instinct is always that the guy is probably overrated, and time better served to find an undervalued player at a big school.

Tannehill wasn't used correctly by 2 crappy coaches. He will do well elsewhere

We really don't Know that... Favre was in front of him.. I think he would have developed at whatever pace you gave him.

I remember seeing him in a QB challenge with other college QB’s before that draft... and really being impressed with his release and accuracy.

I was screaming for his pick #2 overall!

Yes...it doesn’t have to be a 1st rounder necessarily... I like several QB’s that could be there 2nd round and beyond!
