“I would like to know by January or February,” Fitzpatrick told me in the final days of the season
Why? Because Fitzpatrick says his offseason training program and approach with his weight will be dictated by what position he plays.
“I lost 10 pounds playing cornerback because I moved faster, chasing guys around,” he said. “If I’m playing safety, maybe 8 to 10 pounds more [is better] so I have a little extra thud.”

I don't blame him, but im sure he will be a safety/nickel corner. The way they use their safeties in NE there is no doubt he will move around a lot. not to mention anyone is more competent than burke. There is no doubt he will be put in a position to be successful, and that is not on the boundary.

You're not getting the best Minkkah has to offer if you put him at free safety IMO... Not the way most teams are playing the game these days... Guy needs to be around the ball and there are just too many ways OCs can scheme him out of the game when he's there...

I'm a huge fan of Minkah Fitzpatrick. He's the type of leader we need. He does the hard work and film study like Zach Thomas and is the physical specimen we always wanted. But a slot CB isn't as valuable as a free safety. I'd rather have the next Ed Reed than the next great slot CB. Fitzpatrick has the speed and ball skills to be a great FS, and IMHO, that's exactly where he needs to play. Boundary CB's are far more valuable than slot CB's, and a great FS like Earl Thomas is probably even more valuable than a cornerstone CB.

Fitzpatrick is right, he wants to know so he can start preparing. I'm hoping the next Dolphins head coach lets him know ASAP, and that he decides to make Fitzpatrick a FS. We've needed a true FS for decades now.

If he's not the starting free safety in week one then I'll already be 100% against the new coaching staff right off the bat. Can't waste another season of elite talent playing out of position.

This is the most important player on our current roster, IMO, in terms of development.

Please, please get him at FS in the middle of the field. It would be a nice start to a new coaching regime to put him where he needs to be. It's awesome he's as versatile as he is, but boundary CB should be a last option. Slot is cool in certain packages. I just want him to be able to see it all and react accordingly.

I mean its probably true, but I bet he’s just trying to get an answer at this point. Like “cmon dudes, wtf position am I gonna be playing in Miami!?” I don’t blame him. The way he was used last year and now the “rebuild “ leaves a lot to be desired for a guy like him. You can tell he’s a true competitor. He’s probably itching to start making some noise in the nfl. I hope the next guy can see how we have some amazing pieces on defense that if used right can be really good.

He has a right to know what the plan is so I don't blame him. I'm sure he'll know soon enough.
