I'm just curious to get some opinions on the 2019 plan. I keep seeing these Tag, Retain. Walk threads and it seems like some sentimental decisions are being made. From what I can see there is no place for Cam Wake or Frank Gore on the 2019 Dolphins. Is this wrong? From all the "Tank" talk this is how I see it:

Defense
Keep
Howard
Fitzpatrick
Baker (development year)
McMillan (development year)
Harris (rookie deal, should get lots of playing time to see if there's any hope even though there probably isn't)
Godchaux
Taylor
McCain (slot only and frankly I'd look to move on eventually)

That's pretty much it, everyone else is likely gone. We need to rebuild the DE room badly.

Offense
Keep
Drake
Wilson
Grant
Stills (one trick pony in my eyes I'd look to move on eventually)
Tunsil
Sitton (possibly gone)
James (decision coming)
Ballage
Davis (one more developmental year)

Pretty much it. Look for a new Center and get some guards into the competition mix.

Is this the direction folks see us going in? I've never seen a team, before the 2019 Dolphins, leak that they are tanking before the HC walks into the building. Are we looking at 16 games of this Rudock dude? Before anyone says Brock, as bad as he is he's probably too good for 1-15 - 3-13, he's probably more like 5-11 - 7-9.
 
I would resign William Hayes to a new budget friendly contract. That injury early in the year due to him trying to avoid landing on the QB was ridiculous. Ok, I'm a fan of the dude. He was arguably one of our best defensive linemen.
 
Also, anyone think Dola could be a sentimental keep just for "Patriot Way" experience?

Yes, Gesicki is obvious and Tank should be given every chance to win the #2 CB job. I was thinking more along the lines of obvious starters although Gesicki could be he should be used differently.

First, I don't think this is a 'tank' season, so I'm going to tweak your list (quite a bit). And I'm only listing those with projected frequent snaps.

Keep D
X, Fitz, either Jones or TJM, Taylor, Hayes, Harris, McMillan, Goodchaux, McCain,
Keep O
Tunsil, Sitton, James, Wilson, Grant, Smythe, Gesicki, Drake, Gore, and either Swanson or Kilgore
I'm keeping all '17 and '18 rookies
Keep til upgrades are found
Quinn (don't want to gut DEs), KA, either Larsen or Davis, Ballage, Butler, Bolden (I'm tempted to put Bolden in 'keep')
That DOESN'T mean I'd dump the rest, but those are most likely.

That's 9-10 on D and 12 on O (3 RBs). That's NOT a total rebuild. I expect Flores will keep most, if not all 1st/2nd year guys, I doubt he'll gut any position, I doubt he'll cut any average players unless he has upgrades signed. OTOH, overpriced guys (e.g., Branch) should have targets on their backs. I suspect he'll target the 4-5 players he sees as most expendable (i.e., awful) and start with them and triage the rest based on talent/money. Yeah, that's almost a typical off season strategy. This could change if fans see signs of a 'total rebuild, but, to date, it's all opinion/wishes
 
Why would you want to get rid of Stills? He's the best deep threat on the team and it's most productive TD scorer of all the pass catchers.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of opinions I'm looking for. My list is based on a total tank so if you don't think that is what we are doing our lists should be vastly different.

I hear you, just wish he was a tougher player who could offer more in the short and intermediate game as well as blocking.

Personally I think the biggest issue we will have with "tanking", although most poster think it will be easy, is too many game breakers on offense (assuming health is good) in Drake, Grant, Wilson and even Stills and a strong secondary. Those 4 players will make a ham and egger QB look good at times by taking short stuff the distance not to mention Studevilles running game produced a fair amount of long TD runs. Also just having 2 potentially elite (Howard and Minkah) players on the back end is another thing that will make things tough. While they may field what they consider to be a subpar team the players and coaches will be trying to win.
 
Whoever they decide the starting QB is will tell us how badly they are actually tanking. I don't love the idea honestly, bc too many unpredictable variables go into who is available next season. I would like to see us trade down as much as possible this draft, and stockpile picks for next year in order to move up. That way even if we end up winning 5-6 games, we can still get into the top few spots to grab an elite QB.

Not when you've played 13 out of 32 games the past 2 years
 
I think Sitton and James are contract decisions. Unless Sitton has too much dead cap to be expendable, I expect him to be let go. James is unlikely to be resigned. But who knows, there are always some surprises.
