This Is How The Dolphins Plan To Tank This Year

If they are really tanking, now would be a good time to STFU about it... There's a difference between a team that really looks like its trying to tank and a team that explicitely states we are tanking... Losing on purpose is definitely not allowed and the Fins are walking a thin line here...

Agree. Plus, all these articles about releasing Tannehill and others to do a reset doesn't help trade value. Who's the genius who was discussing releasing Tannehill in the middle of trade talks? Or releasing players (plural)?

Doesn't sound like a tank. Sounds more like 'we're moving in the direction of being a competent NFL team.'

That doesn’t change the fact that he is an impatient meddling owner that we now know has forced signings and draft picks.

I see the first point you made was absolute trash. So let's compound the asinine opinion by adding another falsity.

It is odd that a I guess 80 year old owner would embrace a tank.

I don’t think I’d want to hear my team was rebuilding at 80 plus. Lol

Hell I don’t even like hearing it at 42. Stuff happens

Iv been saying that we'll before the press conference when all the Tank talk started mid season. My money was on him trading for someone like Carr and continue spending because of his age over any type of rebuild

PSSST... hate to break it to you, but we're tanking.

So explain even a little how do the Dolphins plan on tanking? Explain the process.

New coach right out of the gate will try to lose???? LOL.....Thats good for his reputation. Great for confidence and moral for his players.

Tell all the players to go through the motions? ....great way to get injured.

Bring barbeque grills on the sideline?

Might as well tell the players to bring their wives and children on the sideline in 2019

What sucks most about it is that this comes in the year we host the Super Bowl. Would have been nice to be able to compete and be the first team to ever host and play in the Super Bowl. That said, if this tank leads us to years of Super Bowl chances, then it will be worth it.

If tanking means not spending an extra dime than we need to field a team then I am more than prepared to walk away from vets who want a raise and the lure of FAs

We are probably gonna end up with Herbert after this tank fest.

Better hope that kid has it between the ears. Otherwise gonna be a long 5 years.

They are going to need to get into the top 4 to get a QB next year and number 1 overall to get Tua (if he declares). Herbert, Fromm & Tua. (I keep seeing evaluators calling Fromm a game manager.) Of course this depends on who ends up 1 thru 4 and if they already drafted a QB. Sort of like this year where AZ, SF & NYJ already have one.

So we either need to finish with 3-4 wins or trade up in 2020 from a possible 8-12 pick. That means giving up a 2021 pick which also means bypassing Trevor Lawrence.

That's a pretty tough gamble, IMO.

Of course this could all change depending on what these QB's do this year. Herbert could drop drastically or gain even more value this year. We just never know.

They better be darn sure about the next drafted QB. This is not going to be pretty. I don't think anyone on this staff has been part of drafting a legit franchice QB. Not even Marvin Allen since he left before KC took Mahomes, I think.

SMH. Of course the players and new coaching staff will try and win every game. However, the roster will be blown up, no high price free agents will be signed, high priced players who aren't part of our future will be cut. We won't be signing teddy Bridgewater, or Nick foles and will likely roll with a QB on our roster right now. The org will try and fill holes, along both lines probably as a priority, and the roster will be talent deficient in many areas as it is rebuilt over the next 2-3 years including this year at the QB position.

But, the players and coaches will try and win every game they play in, they just will likely be talent deficient enough to lose more games than we did last year and hopefully that will result in us being able to be in a position to draft a franchise QB without having to mortgage the farm to get trade up because we will be drafting very high. This is the plan that seems to be coming out of those that have sources close to the organization. Maybe it won't happen, but I hope it does because that's the only way we will be able to break this horrific 20 year cycle of mediocrity, and that's to hit on a franchise QB in the draft.

I'm not buying that we're tanking. We're just not going to treat the team like it's 1 player from the SB like in years past. We're hopefully not going to make the same stupid mistakes under Tannenbaum with the roster. If we're not going to be good, I want to at least have cap space.

Even if we get rid of all the overpaid vets, this is still not a 2-14 roster. All those overpaid vets we're getting rid of did next to nothing last year.

What did somebody like Andre Branch do?

I feel like a lot of people have a misunderstanding of what "tanking" actually is. The losses are going to come organically as we purge the roster of the veterans and start rebuilding through the draft which takes awhile.

I also am pretty perplexed at why people are against this strategy. Wouldn't you rather be terrible for multiple seasons and then have a shot as a Super Bowl caliber team rather than miring in mediocrity every single season? Has the team not been completely boring to watch for the last decade plus?

Agree with much of what you say.

I don't think we are as talent deficient as you. We are experience, and coaching deficient in many areas.

You haven't seen who they will cut yet, and again, I ask you, where's our franchise QB? Who are we going to start there next year?

Cut Robert Quinn and Cam Wake and we are talent deficient at pass rush. We need 3 brand new interior O-linemen, at least 1 starting D-Tackle, 1 new starting boundary corner to put across from Howard, and will cut Ryan Tannehill and will likely not replace him with someone who will win more than 3 or 4 games. Where is all of this talent you see and how will we fill all of those holes with starters from 1 draft?
