Dom Capers Declines Bengals Dc Job

Wasn't he our d coordinator years back? I don't think he was very good.

Here’s what I’ve noticed about Capers; he seems to make a HUGE impact when he comes to a team defense, and then they fall off when teams adjust to him. His first stint as DC, in PIT? The team’s D went from 22nd to 2nd. His first two seasons (inaugural seasons for the franchise) in Carolina as HC? 8th, then 2nd...then fell off drastically before he was fired.

Then he jumped to Jacksonville as DC, and their D jumped from 17th...to 1st...then back down to 16th the next year. Back to HC of the Texans in 2002, where he was remarkably unsuccessful for three years.

That’s when his brief stint with the Fins started. He was hired as an assistant coach, and...surprise! The Fins D went from 15th to 5th in 2006.

Let’s...let’s just not talk about 2007.

After basically no impact either way with the Pats in 2008, he was hired as GB’s DC in 2009, and (surprise!) took their D from 22nd...to 7th...to 2nd in 2010. And then his D fell off, and was around the middle of the pack for a few years, until the wheels fell off last year and he got fired.

So the guy makes things better wherever he goes...quickly. And then I am assuming people adjust to his schemes, and he doesn’t know how to adapt.

So if he’s JUST an assistant? He’s probably very valuable.

Compared to the debacle we had last season, he's a fricken Einstein.

I've always thought he was competent, though not stellar.

I want whatever you or he is smoking.

I may be extremely wrong here, but working for Zac Taylor is a huge train wreck waiting to happen, and Dom Capers reputation would/could be very shaky if what I believe will happen under his Zac's control actually happens.

Caldwell & Capers are two very capable, experienced consultants on both sides of the ball.

If we land Capers I will be very bullish on our staff.

He was not as good as expected, but there is no denying he is one of the better Defensive coaches, with huge amounts of experience.

Another thing in our favor is, our new D-coordinator coached the part of the Packers D that was year in, year out their best unit, and Flores himself did a very good job with what part of the defense Belichick had him take care of, that superbowl though extremely boring and forgettable, still showed an extremely impressive defensive domination of a very good Offense.

Ah dang, I guess the McKenzie hire kinda alluded to this though
Are you speculating that Reggie didn't think too highly of him during their overlapping GB years?

Also, IMO it speaks volumes that Capers would settle for a DC 2nd banana role in JAX rather than sign on to be Zac Taylor's Bengals DC.
