Biggest Mistake Of The Offseason

While we have many ideas of what we think the Fins should or should not do, my big thing is not to have any major screw ups. Minor ones can be overcome, but don't really crap the bed this year. That being said, what do you think could be one of the realistic biggest mistakes that they could make?

Openly being done with Ryan Tannehill (rumored trade talks, photo removed from media work room, non commitment all off season, etc.) but finding a way to keep him and that bloated cap hit on the roster.

Its time . . . .and don’t expect anything in a trade. You literally have no other legit QB option on your team . . . Yet you want nothing to do with Ryan Tannehill . . . What makes you think he has any trade value at that salary?

Pull the cord and be done with this chapter of Miami Dolphins franchise history.

Let him go to another team, tease them in camp a bit and flounder around in big games on Sundays or eventually get hurt.

We need fresh blood at the position.

Ultimately this is what really made me finally give up on Tanne....He would play great for stretches and then as soon as we were in legit playoff contention he would play terrible the final 3-4 games of the year...the most important ones..

The other major issue I have with him is his complete lack of any kind of competitive fire... We could lose a heartbreaking game, or get crushed 35-7 and it didn't seem to bother him even a little bit...same bland cookie cutter responses in the press conference...I want my starting QB to HATE losing with a passion not be indifferent to it.
 
well, a big mistake would be to go after an older stop gap QB. If our QB is not there to draft then go defense and go with the QB's we have now then get your QB in 2020. They've talk a good game so far. Now don't go back on your word and build the right way.

And that’s why he’s a coach killer. He has all the measurable. Works hard in the off-season, is a bright guy and probably is sharp when breaking down film and discussing them with coaches (which is likely why they all support him early on).
However, when the pressure is on to put a team on his shoulders in a pivotal late season game or in the 4th quarter of any close game, he shrinks. He seems to panic and locks on to his primary read. Too easy to defend when he’s in an obvious passing situation.
He has little to no trade value because the previous FO gambled and gave him a ridiculous contract. Then doubled down with the re structure.
They lost both him and Suh for basically nothing (no comp picks) because the FO negotiated team handicapping contracts with both of them.

There's nothing wrong in adding a stopgap as long as we have a quarterback behind them being developed to takeover (e.g. like the Chiefs did with Mahomes). Let the rookie sit until he's ready to takeover, but equally if he wins the job in camp let him start (e.g. Darnold beating McCown). At that point the veteran has value as a mentor.

Spot on.

This is the equivalent to Magic playing coy with New Orleans over Davis. He does not have the luxury of time with LBJ.

Missing on that trade, regardless of the "how", has possibly derailed everything he accomplished with landing LBJ. I feel the Lakers seemingly destroyed everything they were building in one fell swoop.

You cannot overvalue assets when you have more important goals.

RT has only destructive value on our team now. A fresh start and new mindset are the foundation to a new start.

Immediately cut so everyone can start over.

This is why I hate the R word (re structure).......giving a player a bad contract is bad enough but then they re do the deal and make it even worse. Same thing with Jones. Can't cut him cause of the dead money hit and we won't get nothing for him thanks to a bad deal.

I think Rizzi's nail in his coffin was to try and get the Dolphins head coach gig. Once that wasn't going to happen the proper thing to do was to scrape any remanence of the past coaching staff out of the building.
 
These problems aren’t unique to the Phins. The Giants now have the same problem with Olivier Vernon. Most of us new that Vernon would never last with the Giants for the duration of that bloated contract.
However, you don’t see these types of problems with the teams that win consistently.

I'll know the biggest mistake when the off season is over.

Kyler Murray could be doing the phins a huge favor if he goes 1-5. He's stirring the QB group up so much. The Phins might get lucky and get a quarterback they didn't think was available at 13.

It has to fit in the mold of what dirrection Miami wants to go.
