Biggest Mistake Of The Offseason

sure but we don't have that young QB at the moment and if we draft one at 13 and you want a stop gap then might as well keep Tanny and not take the dead money hit.

Agreed. I've said it before, we could do worse than have RT as our stopgap while the coaching staff prepare a rookie. I guess it depends whether RT would be a good mentor and willing to take on that role. Some players don't see it as their role and don't want to help their successor, whereas some like Josh McCown or Ryan Fitzpatrick seem willing to be that veteran mentor.

I think Tannehill needs to go, not because we have anyone better, but because a message needs to be sent. Mediocrity will not be tolerated. You trade/cut him before you have his replacement. You aren't going to the Super Bowl next season anyway. Save 13 million in the process. If you don't use it this year, roll it over.

So what.

Did he go to Chicago and perform bad because of bad ST coaching?

Are you worried Jason Sanders will forget which foot to kick with?
I'm not really sure why he struggled in Chicago. And I don't care which leg Sanders kicks with as long as they go through.

Drafting any QB in the first round not named Kyler would be the biggest mistake. Not even a close second.

These problems aren’t unique to the Phins. The Giants now have the same problem with Olivier Vernon. Most of us new that Vernon would never last with the Giants for the duration of that bloated contract.
However, you don’t see these types of problems with the teams that win consistently.
For so long the Giants were one of the more respectably managed teams in the league. Not sure what’s going on there but they have made a lot of blunders in the last few years - including making Macadoodle-doo the HC and pushing Coughlin into retirement. As good as Barkley is, I think they needed to take a QB last year.

There is no fairness, there are no opinions, there is no collaborative effort, there is not a million ways to skin the cat. There are standards, and that's the way the cat is skinned every year, and that's the way the fish is cleaned every year.

These fkrs don't have standards, and they are a mess, they have no clue what they are doing. They failed to get a QB three years ago, two years ago, a year ago, and they will fail this year too. They had failed, are failing, and will fail, because they are clueless. It's a mess.

Best post I have seen in a long time. Our scouting department and new GM get no honeymoon. They have been part of the problem for years.

It's too early to say really. I hate to say it is going well, because that seems to be exactly when the wheels come off. But, so far, I think we have a plan and are moving forward with that plan. As long as we stick to the plan and see it through, I'm standing behind this rebuild. Nothing is guaranteed, but holistically, we are pursuing a plan that makes a lot of sense. Here's what I'm seeing so far:

1. Grier was the best of the front office production over the last few years, so he was empowered. If the recent uptick in scouting is significantly attributable to him, this seems like the right move.
2. Grier wanted a person who was a great manager more than a great offensive or defensive mind. Grier wanted a guy who had worked his way up through the ranks and knew what it took to be successful. Grier chose Flores.
3. Flores was able to bring a strong stable of assistant coaches over with a very heavy Patriots influence. It seems he wants to install their systems here, and has people capable of implementing them. He knows he can work with these guys.
4. Grier and Flores realize that the talent on this roster does not fit those systems, and they have decided to reboot the team (like every new coach does) with people who fit our new systems. Massive turnover is coming for 2019 and 2020.
5. Eying an elite QB who fits Flores' system, we decided to tear things down completely, tank for 2019, secure that elite QB and target 2020 for our success while using 2019 to rebuild the team and blood many young players.
6. In the interim before 2020, we will concentrate on the OL and DL so the DL is remade with personnel who fit our multiple front scheme, and an OL that can provide support and grow with our rookie QB in 2020.
7. We are culling all the veteran and high-salaried guys to build a team that grows together without any locker room prima donnas, salary cap anchors, or disgruntled players who do not buy in to Coach Flores' systems.

IMHO, that is the correct approach to take. As long as they stand behind that approach, I will support it. If they change mid-stream and go a different direction … it will cause a lot of frustration for me and I will lose faith in what we are doing and the people who made and failed to follow the plan. But fingers crossed. So far we're sticking to the plan.

Biggest mistake of the offseason was firing Gase....

Paying him anyways the money that was on contract, so since he wanted to mouth off to owner and be a prick, take his ego and put it in check by not firing him and he had to either quit(we would still own the rights to his contract) and him not be able to coach in the league or he stays and watches perhaps a real coach put together a staff and manage players

Yeah, right, genius move. So many great coaches are going to want to come to the Dolphins when they see the owner act like a juvenile, vindictive prick to the former coach. Why didn’t Ross think of that?

If not aware of my post history, can see why that comes off as serious

I'm good with everything so far.

Choreographing Tannehill was probably the biggest "mistake". We will get to see what happens with X, James, and the draft.

I love what we've done with the staff. Disappointed Murray will be out of reach, and don't know enough about the other QBs to be upset/mad if we take one. That's all TBD.

So far, so good.

I would say if they didn’t bring in a possible franchise QB, it would be a wasted year of development for pretty much everyone.
I tend to agree there. How often do you get virtually an entirely new coaching staff and wait a year on a quarterback? The most important position on the field?
