my prediction.....Pain!!!
I like Haskins, give up what we gave to move up for Jordan and I am in. As for next year? If he starts and is decent we are not assured of a top 10 pick. Hell with Tannehill missing games we still picked 13th! I like Fromm and Tua but I think Haskins is right there.
Would rather have Ed Oliver
I know the statement has been made that Miami will wait to draft their franchise quarterback in 2020. That may still happen, but how often does a new coaching staff go year one without that position solved, or potentially solved? It's such a crucial position and waiting a year is always a gamble to an extent.
So, my prediction is that the Dolphins deal up for Haskins. I love Murray, but it sounds like there is a good chance he goes #1 overall. By the way, I think that would be a good move for Arizona. He is that type of prospect IMO, electric in every way. My main concern with Murray is durability due to his size/weight.
Haskins is right up there, though. I know he's only started one year and he's not the athlete Murray is, but he could have virtually everything this coaching staff is looking for, leadership, a strong arm, accuracy etc. He also could prove to be more durable than Murray, which matters. If you can't answer the bell, your value goes way down.
SF at #2 could be a potential deal partner. The 49ers really want and need a pass rusher so passing up Nick Bosa might be tough. The Jets, picking at #3, won't deal to Miami. I think the Dolphins would have to get above the NY Giants at #6.
Thoughts?
I don’t wanna trade up for anyone. I think we will be bad enough next year that we can take who we want in 2020 and not have to give up future first rounders. We all know that’s what it’s gonna take to move up in to the top 5
I’d say we need to get above the Giants for sure. So that leaves Tampa and Oakland as realistic trading partners. Both teams could still get a player to help them at 13 and add further picks to help aid their own rebuilds. Quite whether we want to pay the price to move up is another matter, but if Haskins is the guy, then they have to at least make the call.
As for the 49ers, they could be persuaded to trade back but I suspect it would need to be to 4th or 5th after we’ve moved up already rather than going all the way back to 13th. But if Nick Bosa is here, then it would have to be a huge offer for them to move back.
If our front office and coaching staff believe that Haskins is “the guy” who can become our first legitimate successor to Dan Marino, then in all honesty they need to do whatever it takes to go and get their guy. There’s no guarantee that guy will be there in next year’s draft. We’ve seen quarterbacks return to college and fall (eg Barkley) and we’ve seen quarterbacks return to college rather than come out (eg Herbert, Barkley, Luck) which might weaken the class. So while trading up for Haskins might be expensive and perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, if our front office and coaching staff think he’s the guy, then they have to try and get him.
This let’s wait for next year is not a sustainable approach.
Head to head Rosen’s a better prospect than Haskins. More active feet. Better feet in a muddy pocket. Coming out at least.
Very similar though in that protection matters A LOT
When you factor in Rosen’s concussion history and reputation as being difficult , I don’t see them as even close. Haskins all day.
