Veterans’ Contract Stipulations Could Force The Dolphins To Act Quickly To Clear Cap Space

I sure don't think you need Ryan's money for anything now- although like Jackson said they would probably do it sooner more the be fair to Ryan.

Although I think very highly of Ryan as a person and team-mate, if it makes more financial sense to release him after June 1st, we must do what is best for the team. Assuming there is no trade available before or after the June 1st cut deadline. We must accumulate youth and draft capital.

That’s fine, I have to tell I you have seen some on twitter advocating to just take the hit all in 2019- since we don’t plan to be active. This way its clear for 2020.

I have thought about that a lot as well, why do a post june 1st for anyone if we aren't going to spend it this summer anyway. Go into 2020 with a top qb and 100 million in cap space.

You hit the nail on the head. This season needs to be a reset. Cut everyone you’re going to cut, don’t use any June 1 designations, and take your lumps now. Walk into 2020 with no more dead cap, hopefully a top 5 pick for our QB of the future, and a ton of cap space.

No more half measures and patch jobs. It’s time to do this right.

This may sound ridiculous, but I envy the cap situation and talent acquired by the Cleveland Browns. They've just about turned the corner; have loads of cap space, as well as, a young and hungry team. What Cleveland has done over the past few seasons is admirable. And believe it opened eyes around the league, as the new model to building sustainability? Mr. Ross may have taken notice, because he's seems to to have finally reversed course and gone the traditional route, in terms of hierarchy and team structure. Leading to the cap purge that is about to happen in Miami.

Nah, were still going to have teams dull out bad over paid contracts , only to cut the player after ie like Dion Simms or Clay etc. plus they have to spend for cap anyway.

I do get your point though...

I get what some people are saying about taking the whole cap hit for Tanny this year but it's not that simple. We already have over 13mill (Suh) and once we let go some of these vets we'll have some cap but we'll also have to replace several players so we will need at least some cap space for more than just the draft. If cut post June the dead money would "only" be 5 mill so we'll see how the FO handles it.

On the other hand cutting Jones after the 2019 season would give us a dead money hit of over 8mill.

But that also carries dead money into 2020. It’s time we were done with all this dead money and inflated contracts. This is a throw away season regardless, so might as well take our lumps now salary cap-wise and be done with it.

I don't totally agree w Ross. I think he is over his head. when it come to football. Ross don't know if he going forward or backward (one thing I can say about Jerry Jones. at leased he have heart. Jerry want that Superbowl bad before he retire.
