Teddy Bridgewater Discussion (resignining With The Saints)

The #Saints have restructured Drew Brees' contract to clear $10.8 million in salary cap space, as they try to lock down backup QB Teddy Bridgewater and host TE Jared Cook on a free-agent visit today. It's a simple restructure. Brees is still due $23M cash in 2019.

TankForTua might dodge a bullet here. We sign Bridgewater, barring injury, you can say goodnight to a top pick. Teddy would be a lot more fun to watch than Bortles this year, though.

I don't get all the Bridgewater love where people seem to think he's so good that he guarantees us at least moderate success. He started two years, and neither were particularly impressive. Tabnehills best year was statistically light years ahead of Bridgewater. Bortles second year was far better too.

With that being said the sample is small and he's still young so I wouldn't mind brining him in.

TB is fool. why would u not take job in Miami. dolphins need QB in bad waY. I would want more money. Brees will be starter in N.O next 3yr. Dolphins will draft qb this yr. TB will be backup qb in nfl.

If I were Teddy I'd take the job in NO. He had an injury history and probably won't take many hits in NO. That almost guarantees him another long term big contract; whereas, one hit behind the Swiss cheese line in Miami could be the end on his career. It's a smarter business move to be in NO in my opinion

This is why I think getting him makes no sense to me. If he's not good enough then why waste money and lose out on a comp pick?

I believe of all vet FAs, he gives us the best chance to win games next season, bringing us right back to mediocrity. I'm also not sold on Bridgewater as "the guy", either, so signing him is a risky move, IMO. I really hope this franchise doesn't waste anymore time in a proper rebuild. Ross said he was going to do this the right way, only to FOMO into Teddy Bridgewater?

Sean Payton certainly thinks highly enough of the guy to get Brees to restructure. 13 years later, Brees could once again change the course of Dolphin history with his restructured contract, if the extra money helps the Saints lock up Bridgewater.

Another thing to keep in mind -- where is Miami's leverage? Last offseason, the Dolphins were the first team to contact him in a backup/starter role but Bridgewater's price was firm 15M/yr. So why would he take less to come to Miami this year, this time as an obvious bridge starter? He'd be stupid not to go back to New Orleans, that is unless the Dolphins back up the brinks truck.

If Teddy Bridgewater becomes a Dolphin today, Miami FOMO'd and he's making at least 16M this year.

Don't forget that we have a few young guys, especially Gesicki. He needs to grow this year. We can't afford to start a guy like Brock because you will waste a year of development for the 2 young TEs and the 2 young RBs.

Partially agree.

My issue is that I think if Gesicki is schemed and used properly, he can work wonders for a guy like Osweiler. I'd be more concerned if we had a young group of WRs as it generally takes time to get the ball to them downfield.

I can’t believe I am about to say this but Bortles is the better option. Similar skill level and was released so won’t count against the compensatory picks.

Yah I don't want it if the money isn't right. I'm just saying the youth and small sample at least in theory can give hope that there's some untapped potential. I have my doubts personally, but I could understand the gamble
