Total Rebuild- Trade Stills, Wilson, & Grant?

It s not supposed to exist but many teams have exceeded it in failed attempts of becoming a legit playoff team.

Consider that if our "Savior To Be" is drafted in 2020, it will take a year to adapt and if we are very lucky, he will be ready for 2021.

The WR's mentioned will be 29 and only with the team IF we re-sign them.
so if we're ready to compete in 2021, that would be a 2-year plan- no?

Value is probably low for Wilson and Grant. Both coming back from pretty serious injuries. Especially for players built on speed. Now stills could be an asset worth trading.
I could see Stills. He's someone that has value who was criminally underutilized by the previous staff. On most teams, he would have had 60-70 catches and in the neighborhood of 10 touchdowns. I'd package him in a trade-up with SF or another team to get a top quarterback.

Miami has cleared enough salary cap now that I think they should start keeping their good, young players. Starting with Howard, Tunsil and Fitzpatrick and maybe including Wilson and Grant.

It didn't take Baker Mayfield, Dak Prescott, or Russell Wilson a year to adapt. They were pretty good from the get go. If you get the right QB, they can have an impact right away.

Stills was never under utilized, he just could never get open.

Anyone is trade bait for the right offer.

That being said, all those players should still be in their primes when we're ready to compete, and none of them are going to draw enough compensation in trade to make trading them worthwhile.

It would cost the team more money to get rid of Wilson than to keep him. In fact, the difference between the cap hit and the dead cap hit...is more than Jakeem Grant's salary for 2019.

Not only that, but their skill sets should work well in the 2019 offense. It's just not a good ROI, unless someone bangs down their door with a crazy trade offer.

True story. However, the the Wilson hit is under $10M and a trading team not having to pay him a dime because of us picking up the tab is very attractive.

Grant's salary is $720K, NFL lunch money, and not a good comparison for anything.

You were looking for a reaction...IMO.

You got it...9 posts in, unless this is a burner account.

FYI, I have been posting much longer than you and, in the past, much more often.

However, a poser's time and number of posts should not be reason for ridicule and/or name calling.

JMHO from 20 years of posting.

Rumors of the Patriots possibly willing to offer a second round pick for Sterling Shephard. Really makes me wonder what we can get for Kenny Stills. Patriots are obviously in the market for a slot receiver, as they failed to land Humphries. But a team in need of an outside threat might be willing to offer a day two pick.

I love Kenny Stills, btw. Just unsure of whether or not he fits in our new coaching staff's plans .

Kinda true but, the second year tells more of a QB, teams have film on him and he adjusts to the speed of the game. Also, those three QB's had some VG surrounding talent.

Look at all the needs we need to fix. Few draft picks make an immediate impact, and FA's are no sure thing.

I like Grier, and believe he will have the team in good position in 3 years BUT, not a legit contender.

Think if whoever on the team can make the plan work and get a better player or make significant improvement to our team than it should possibly be a consideration at a minimum.
Only problem is Whats the Plan ????? nobody outside of a few thousand of Griers brain cells possibly Flores McKenzie Caldwell possibly really knows. So at this level theres just an overload of possibilities.

We have been told that our Dolphins are going through a rebuild, and that things will be rough for 2-3 years. I believe it will be more like days gone by with a 5 year rebuilding program, hoping I am wrong.

Regardless, we have three play making speed demons at WR and they are at peak value as trade value for picks. A closer look:

Stills (26)- Cost to trading team- $5M in 2019 and $7M in 2020

Wilson (26)- Cost to trading team- $0 in 2019 and $9.5M in 2020

Grant (26)- Cost to trading team- $720K in 2019 and FA in 2020.

The link at the top shows what FA WR's have been paid in FA and I believe we can get a 3rd round pick for Stills and Wilson and a 4th for Grant, as they are young, cheap play makers. We may get a bit more by going to 2020 picks (not a bad idea).

I do not want to let them go but, in 3 years (IF we get things together by then) they will all be 29 and new contracts will be needed by all three before then.

Trading now is our best option.

This isn't a total rebuild

Stills was money in 2016 with a healthy RT, 9 TD's and a 17 yard average. He has good value for any QB who can throw deep.

Trading X would make more sense. This is a revuild, the team isn't contending for at least 3 years. Why waste X in his prime, and pay him a ton on a bad team? If you could get a first and some more it should be considered.. If this wasnt a rebuild, and this was a contender, then hell no to trading X
It's a good point you make, I see both sides of the argument pertaining to X, what surprises me is this notion that he is untouchable.
