Mike Gesicki, What’s The Plan?

That’s not the only difference between you and me

I'm expecting to see him as a seam threat right away, tried the five and out routes and drags routes, but he is a vertical threat. He had a better combine than Mike Evans, and I just don't know why in a crucial year for Gase to succeed it had to be a year of in-line tightend blocking development...

Graham played just one season of football and had 17 receptions for 213 yards and 5 TDS.

Gesicki meanwhile had 129 receptions for 1849 yards and 15 touchdowns for his career.

I would love to see the stats comparison. I'm also betting that they(at least receiving wise) aren't that heavily weighted in Grahams favor. Now, I'm not saying Gesicki is the next Graham, but I am saying that he can be respectable compared to Graham.

Too many excuse makers who don't trust the film on Gesicki...

If his job is anything remotely similar Gronk's...I imagine he will be on the bench because he's shown that no matter how willing he is, he's just not even an average blocker. That means any possible subterfuge is a rap when he's in, and press coverage with an aggressive CORNERBACK has proven effective.

Yep let's compare him to Gronk...unreal!

He's not even good as a downfield receiver. I have not seen a guy who tests as well as he does, look like a complete goof as an athlete. He completely lacks any fluidity, change of direction, or agility. He stumbles far more then he actually makes a clean move up field. Those are not even plays where he has to play through contact. He is even worse there.

I'm 100% ok with jumping the gun on this one because I feel there is just no way he will develop based on what I saw him do last season. There isn't even a flash, and there just ins't a way to make a human more fluid or more agile.

I have high hopes for this kid still. My optimize comes from the fact that Gase didn't have ANY production from the TE position at all. Even teams with similar situations at TE far out produced Miami in TE production. I don't know if Gase refused to let them play, limited the calling or flat refused to use them but something went on in his offense and it wasn't only the fact that we had pour play at the position, that was only half the story.

On the slight chance someone puts an inexperienced press CB on him, whiffs, and Gesicki catches a fade for a TD . . . That is his best chance for success.

But I don’t believe I have seen a TE get moved off a spot so easily by undersized guys . . .hell maybe ever. As a blocker, he is at least “willing” and that deserves some credit but god he is on skates by guys he should handle at his size. It is very Dallas Thomas like at times.

He lacks balance, strength and natural movement.

He is year 1-2 Jakeem Grant at this point. A pure specialist, not somebody who should get snaps with any regularity.

He needs A LOT of work and I completely understand people jumping the gun here.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me here is me DREADING seeing #55 on the Bills lining him up.

I stopped watching in the 4th and put $5 in Big Buck Hunter to pass the time....

Below is a comparison of the top 3 TEs in 2018, their first season.

He needs more targets especially in the red zone

You try to play to your players strengths, right? Well:

Weaknesses
  • Built more like a high-jumper than a tight end
  • Long and lanky with a stride length that limits quickness in and out of breaks
  • Will struggle to shake coverage on short routes near the line of scrimmage
  • Play strength is below average
  • Needs to prove he can handle physical jams and route redirection
  • Can be slow to get head around and find the ball
  • Passive approach as blocker puts run plays in immediate peril
  • Hand usage is poor in run game
  • Rarely sustains blocks against legitimate edge talent

^That was an assesment from NFL.com coming out of college. So what DID WE ASK HIM to do? Well, of course, block. Because, as we all know, we had a guru running our offense last year.

This guy is 6'6 and runs a 4.54 40. Get him up the middle of the fking field and throw him the fking ball.

If you can't get 6'6, 4.54 40 more than 2 targets a game, go coach pee wee tee-ball please (edit: or the Jets).

Anyone on Gase's offense and Burkes defense gets a pass from me although most assesmemts in this thread are correct- the guy is as soft as white bread.

he looked like a big clumsy ballerina out there last year

i'm hoping it was a lot of mental processing leading to some choppy movement...looked like they were asking him to do too much with these cuts and short routes - they need to have him striding across or up the field not these stupid stutter step out/in routes....

i don't care if he never blocks again because if he ends up being productive and worth a roster spot it won't be for his blocking

either work this kid to his strength or tell me he doesn't fit into the offensive gameplan and move on. the identity crisis needs to stop and hopefully it happens with this new regime

Its not just about being able to block, its about not getting move off your spot or redirected so easily in his route running. I am in agreement with FSU Truth and Kdawg here, hes not even close. And its not strength or athletic ability that is the issue.
