Bidding War For Quinn?

I don't think there will be any real benefits for the Dolphins to this bidding war in terms of compensation. We most likely will get a 6th or a 7th rounder from either team. The real winner of the bidding will be Quinn as he'll be able to secure more money beyond his final year of his contract.

I highly doubt Dallas, a contender, is letting Quinn walk away from their facility over a 6th or 7th round pick.

You don't say?

Answer me this without any bullsh!t altogether; why are you a fan?

Being a fan of Miami Dolphins is part of me. I've been following the team for three decades, watching games, rooting for the team. It's as simple as that. I'm just a fan.

This team must spend money in free agency. It's inevitable, whether they sign their own or other teams' free agents. It is impossible to draft all 53. It is impossible to have a payroll that low. You would need 14 picks in each of the next four drafts and hit on every pick to draft all 53. That is impossible. And then in the fifth year your first 14 would come up for renewal. You would need to sign those FREE AGENTS! Or get another 14 picks in the draft to replace them.
The suggestion that the Dolphins should not spend in free agency is idiotic.

A fourth round pick is nowhere near enough to move up for a QB. It's idiotic to suggest that it helps get up in the first round for a QB. It's a 50-60 points value, and first round is 1000 to 3000 points draft value. Fourth round pick is negligible.

We are in a position to trade up for a QB this year. We had been in a position to trade up every single year. Could've done it three, two, one year ago. Could've done it this year too already.
Yes we need an elite quarterback, and we do not need any particular quarterback. We just need one who is elite. And there are three in this draft. We need one.
We do not need Andrew Luck. We are good if we get Mahomes, Goff, Watson, Wilson. It does not have to be any particular quarterback.

No, you are not giung to tell me what team to follow. This owner is an idiot and so is the GM.

Here, what would you say as an owner if I asked you to give me FIVE MILLION DOLLARS to buy a fourth round pick?
To increase the cap hit this year from 13 mil to 18 mil so that we have less cap space to improve the team. So that we just dish out 5 mil to a departing player.
So that we can possibly improve the team with a fourth round pick next year, even though this year you, mr. owner, are paying 180 million dollars in payroll.

Would you say that is a grand plan with your money? Or would you tell me to pack up and gtfo!

Who even has a gall to ask for sht like that, but an idiot?
You think Grier is going to Ross and asking him to spend his money on this? It's likely the other way around, Grier will have briefed on what Ross wants to do and knows that Ross is willing to buy picks.

See. Solid post. You CAN do this.

But 4th/mid round picks are used in packaged deals all of the time. Also we can still package next year picks to move up this year.

And I assure you we will be fighting in FA market next year with an iron fist. This year was/is all about doing the opposite of patchwork and exactly what they said they were/are doing- rebuilding.

I get that you want it NOW. Me too, ma brotha. Me too. It's not just as simple as you make it out to be.

Do you at least understand that about you, that you make it appear so easy? Please tell me you can look in the mirror and see that, that you make it seem so easy.

Saying that there are three elite QB's in next month's draft may be just a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think there is a single "Suck for Luck" QB, never mind three of them.

Sure hindsight can tell you that the Dolphins "missed" on QB's but I think any honest fan will tell you that the draft is a crap shoot, at best. Look at the failures the Patriots have had in the first couple of rounds over the past few years. Sure they have been drafting late in the first round each year but to strike out as often as they do just proves a point. https://expo.masslive.com/erry-2018/04/410234af9b3666/new_england_patriots_nfl_draft.html

Personally, it will be difficult to watch the Dolphins this year since I can not, in good faith, root for the team to tank. I just can't bring myself to do that. But I do like that they are freeing up cap space and accumulating some draft capital to restock in the next couple of off seasons. I will just take some more youth football officiating jobs on Sundays this fall so I don't have to watch the game I guess.

My biggest fear this off season is that they will be foolish in the draft and overspend their draft capital to move up and take one of the QB's. I would rather see them trade down if their targeted player is not there at #13 and get additional picks.

It is simple. You cut Tannehill, not trade, and you get additional 5 million cap space. Now you ave 32 mil instead of 27 mil. You keep 10 mil for rookies. You are left with 22 mil instead of 17 mil.

In this draft you will be hard pressed to find 34OLBs better than Justin Houston or Jamie Collins. They are proven, and first round types will not be available to us. They may need to build up strength, get coached up, and maybe 2 year projects.
When you look at that, it is easy. Go sign proven 34OLBs to add to Charles Harris and Quinn who can play DE for versatility and there is your edge game, year 1 of the rebuild!! It's easy.
But it is not easy when like Grier you are scrapping the team and the holes are 5 years in waiting! Then it is not easy.

It is easy to get the QB. There are three in this draft. You can trade up, it takes about 3000 points to get to the Niners spot or less to get to the Jets spot. The Jets would love to have an OT. It takes 2 firsts (2000 pts) a second (500 pts) and player like Minkah or Tunsil. And they can even keep this year's second round pick.
You get a QB and you can roll, evaluate, plan, day 1.

But it's hard when you do not know, and you want a particular quarterback called Tua, 6002, and you can't sleep at night thinking what if it does not happen that you have a #1 pick next year. Then it is hard, it is hard when you're dumb. and unsure.

It is easy. In addition to that veteran pass rush we need 2-3 MAIN COGs on defense. We don't need 5 years of drafting! We need a Fletcher Cox in the middle.
Get Renell Wren in the second round.

We need a key corner. Go get David Long in the draft, in the third round! That's a key cog.

They can get tackles in the draft. I have a full thread in the draft forum. It's easy to get going day 1.

It's not easy when you are not doing anything, when you have a 5 year waiting plan. Wait and see. Rolling dice, throwing money away. It's not easy.

The whole idea they are building for next year is repulsive.

The fact they have a gall to ask the owner to pay millions of dollars to a departing player, millions of dollars for a pick, and that the owner is willing rach for his pocket and give away cash, is idiotic.

This whole Quinn thing is so stupid on so many levels. Morons gonna moron.
This guy hasn't been hammered yet?
