Quinn To Be A Cowboy Soon??

Not paying him and getting a 6th for the direction we are taking is a win, plain and simple!

Up to 11 picks in 2020...

I know everyone focuses on moving up in round 1, but you can get a ton of value moving up in the other rounds as well. I think K-Dawg pointed out how the team moved up for Howard in round 2.

To quote the greatest show ever made - "All the pieces matter". Don't dismiss late round picks as those are all ammo.
 I’m fully prepared to dismiss a 6th Round pick.

Easy to say. Dallas has to agree to that. What if they didn't want to part with a 4th or 3rd round pick?

Not saying that they would've, but it would've been nice if they had. We had 2 teams being the Saints and Cowboys that were both showing interest, I feel like there could've been a chance for one of the teams to give more than a 2020 6th with us taking a part of the cap hit.

A 4th would have been a win, a 5th would have been even, a 6th (and if the Boys have a good season it is close to a 7th) is a loss.

Quite a few of you just aren’t getting it. It’s really not that hard.

The options were (a) cut the player and receive nothing but whatever cap savings or cap hit that comes with it or (b) trade him for whatever you can get.

In what world is receiving compensation — no matter how small — not better than simply cutting the player?

They got a free draft pick for a player they were going to part with regardless.

Think about going out to your trash can to throw something away then having someone stop you and hand you $5 for it instead. While you’re not rich, isn’t that outcome a win? You guys are complaining cause the Dolphins weren’t able to counter and convince the Cowboys to give them $20 instead when they knew they were still gonna throw Quinn away regardless. SMH.

Why was keeping the player not an option?

I'm going to assume that's its because we can roll over the cap savings of his salary in 2019 to 2020 thereby creating more cap space next year. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong about that.

He’s not a part of the future, and with only one year left on his deal .. we know we aren’t competing for anything in 2019
I actually don’t like that line of thinking. We still have to field a competitive football team in 2019 and my question is: who are we replacing him with? And if the answer is that his replacement isn’t as good as him, you have to keep that player.

More like, he doesn’t fit the scheme they won’t to run on defense...

I'm totally down with the draft pick. Better than a 7th

not as juicy as a 4th-5th.

Bottom line -- we already invested 1mil in '20 R6!

Great take. But hey who cares if it just justifies the loosing we will be enduring the next 3 years just hoping we chose the right coach and QB. Of course now instead of a 3 year plan to find out if we made another bad choice we have to wait and see over 5 years plus loose alot in the meanwhile.
If we've made a bad choice, everything else is irrelevant.

I'm hoping for the best. These guys seem to a a good combination of being innovative, as well as hard nosed. The importance of holding ppl accountable can't be overstated.

I’m actually torn on this. I believe that good coaches can make it work. Even though Quinn supposedly was a scheme fit last year, Matt Burke was a terrible terrible defensive coordinator.

I just think that Quinn could have been good this year with us and a 6th round pick for him is a bad deal for us.

That's the thing though, they don't really. They're claiming they want to be competitive, and I get that they'll try to win games when actually on the field, but everything they're doing states that they know this is a long term thing. What's the point of being "kind of competitive" as we've been for the past 20 years? Getting the odd playoff game, and being generally an 8-8 team? There's no point. They're finally realising this, and they're realising that it'll take some time to build properly. No point spending a lot of money on someone who isn't going to be here long term, doesn't fit the scheme they'll be playing, and they can potentially use the pick to get some depth, even if it's a special teamer.
