Xavien Howard DB, Miami Dolphins

Dolphins CB Xavien Howard reported for the first day of offseason workouts.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, there was some thought Howard would hold out in search of an extension which makes him the highest-paid corner in the league, but it does not look like that will happen. ESPN's Cameron Wolfe reported the Dolphins discussed a long-term deal with Howard's reps in February. It would not be surprising if the two sides come to an agreement before Week 1.

Can’t wait for him to have another good year and then want to be paid like a top CB because Finheaven is going to implode upon itself when they see what it’ll take to sign him.

Or we could be proactive for once and sign him before then.

I’m sure they r just wating till after the draft to sign him to a new deal. They probably have their hands full with prospects. Deals like this usually get done right before training camp.

I don't see a problem with waiting at this time. He did missed his last 4 games last year so showing up for this is a good thing for him as well as for the team to see that he's 100% healthy.

Even more reason to extend him, high character great work effort. Waiting would be a mistake, we have a large amount in cap space use it or lose it can only carry so much over to next year. Wouldn’t mind extending him and giving him 20 million this year so every other year is like 9 million. Hopefully we are just focused on the draft and an extension comes soon.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't - Kiko Alonso, Reshad Jones, Ryan Tannehill - all got unnecessary early extensions (Reshad got it ****ing twice). It's just a guess, really. And if you extend early, you better be getting a home town discount (like we got with Tannehill, like we DIDNT get with Reshad twice - why the **** do they keep extending that guy early for full price?)

I think it comes down to your trust level with the coaching staff. Do you trust your coaching staff to put him in a position to play up to his potential? If that’s a yes, extend him. If not, then why are they your coaches? We know he can play at a high level, so it’s on the coaching staff to play him in a way that lets him shine. But the longer we wait, the higher that price tag.

The Tannehill and Reshad Jones extensions were proactive and smart. The restructuring of them was not. I think with Tennenbaum gone, we won’t have to worry about that nonsense anymore.

No reason to rush. We are gonna have the cap space next year to do it comfortably. Make him earn it one more year.

I agree on Tannehill and Reshad's first extension were a good value... his second extension was not good in any sense - timing, value, etc.

Yep, he has actually missed 25% of his games already. I like the kid, but he needs to prove he can stay on the field.
