2019 Draft: Most Physical Players At Each Position

One of the hardest parts about watching the Miami Dolphins over the last eight years or so is how soft the team has become. This has been especially frustrating in the running game, where the team struggles to pick up short-yardage plays. Simply put, I don't see enough "people movers" up front.

I've hated what this team has become during the past seven years under Philbin and Gase. Philbin wanted the short pass to replace the run, and did away with the FB position. No more automatic first downs with Lousaka Polite! No more nasty, old-school road-graders... they went after players like Jonathan Martin and Dallas Thomas. The team lost their ability to convert 3rd or 4th and short on the ground, to sustain drives, and to run out the clock at the end of a game IF they actually had a lead. Philbin's preferred use of RBs were as receivers out of the backfield. I remember one game with Philbin as HC where Miami had a 1st and goal just inside the 10 yard line. There was a defensive penalty on 4th down, so Miami received another 4 downs. Miami ran a total of 8 plays from inside the 10 yard line, and EVERY play was a pass. They eventually turned the ball over on downs because they couldn't get in the end zone! This series was a perfect example of Philbin's offensive philosophy... idiotic and ineffective. And more recently, Gase gave us more of the same.

I sure hope that Flores realizes the importance of a strong o-line and running game!

NE has quietly become a pretty physical running team as Bill Bellichick always seems to be a step ahead of the trends. I think Flores will do the same in Miami, especially with a young quarterback coming either this year or next (or both).

Being an old-time fan who saw those early 1970's Miami teams that dominated with the running game it's especially difficult watching what the Dolphins have become.

I think Mike Webber will be a steal in the 5th round.
A little off topic, but I had a discussion recently with a NY Jets fan. He is very excited to have Adam Gase and I talked about good points and bad points that I saw with him as a coach. I mentioned that one of the most frustrating things about Gase was how he underutilized talent such as Grant, Drake and Stills. His response was maybe those players aren't as good as Miami fans think.

If that's the case, then running back could be a little higher on the list than we might realize. Personally, I think Drake has a ton of talent but I do think there are a number of really good backs in this draft that I wouldn't mind having. Maybe if the team trades down and accumulates picks they can "splurge" a little on positions other than defensive line and offensive line.

Tre Lamar is not a good prospect. His athletic ability is well below average. His understanding of what's going on in front of him is well below average. His reaction to plays is well below average. He's a guy I don't want anywhere close to this football team.
There have been 3 linebackers over the past 4 years I have lobbied hard for us to draft.. Deon Jones, Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham, we could have had them each in the 2nd round..

Tre Lamar is not near those guys as a pure linebacker prospect, so just keeping him in context, but he also is no Stephone Anthony in terms of his lack of instincts..

Late 3rd 4th round pick maybe..

No need for him on our team though..
