This is a signing that is very reminiscent of Cameron Wake circa 2009.
I don't know that Jayrone Elliott has some great future sitting in front of him like Wake ultimately did.
I just know that pure pass rushers like him have had trouble particularly EARLY in their careers being valued for what they are. Jerry Hughes and Brandon Graham were considered to be draft busts early in their careers. Derek Wake didn't even make it to training camp with the Giants before being told to go to Canada. Even when he came back to the NFL as Cameron Wake, in 2009 he was largely underrated by everyone (including certain infamous beat writers) even as they had tape sitting right in front of them to show them how deadly he was rushing the passer. Mario Addison was underrated his entire career. Probably nobody recalls Antwan Barnes but he was a guy who was underappreciated his whole career for what he could do as a pure pass rusher.
What I'm saying is the precedent is there. If you're wondering how a guy could bounce around the NFL for five years (four with the Packers and one with the Saints), never quite get a real shot to show what he can do on high volume, then show up in a different league, be given 250-300 snaps to show what he can do, and suddenly be a promising player...the precedent is there for these sort of pass rushers to not really be well appreciated early in their careers.
I've watched a lot of him. I've watched his NFL film and his preseason film and his AAF film. In his AAF games I sense a player that's grown and has basically reached full flower. He's got a confidence and a level of dominance that I didn't really see in any other AAF player that I watched, and I watched a ton of them.
