Dolphins Leadership And Xavien Howard Continue Courtship In Good Faith

Thanks for well wishes Gonzo. You're the best!

I know. And I was pointing out an obvious fact. Players are taking a big risk when they opt to play without a long-term contract. I know they are nothing more than chattel to some fans, but I actually wish them the best in what are comparatively short careers.

I'll say it over and over: How did it workout for the Redskins to overpay Josh Norman? He hasn't done anything yet.

An elite CB should be able to cover an elite WR real well, and Howard sucked against Hopkins.

If anyone offers even a 1st rounder for Howard in 2020, I'll take it. The man so far cant even stay healthy, he showed up to training to make the staff think he cares, but like anyone else he just wants to get paid and then take it easy. All players take it easy once they get paid. Not worth it.

The fact that we haven't signed him yet makes me wonder if we really want him around long term...

Howard was targeted 4 times gave up 3 catches for 23 yards and 1 TD vs Hopkins.

Champ Bailey a HOF 1st ballot CB once gave 7 catches 149 yards and a touchdown vs Chad Johnson, and gave up six catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns vs Jerry Porter.

CB's have bad games it happens! Even 1st ballot HOF CBs get beat. It's football even 1st ballot all time great players have some really bad games.

So if all players take it easy once they get paid should we not resign anyone?

People tend to mistake these contracts for military contracts. He's risking injury without a long-term deal. That's a risky business decision, and this is nothing more than a business.
Ok but he's under contract. What you're saying is that every player that doesn't have a long term contract should not show up for anything because they could get hurt. But they can get hurt in the shower too. Either way, I'm glad he's showing up but imo that's what he's supposed to do.

I know what you’re saying but he’s about to break the bank and he’s on a rookie second round pick salary. These are voluntary workouts. I’m not sure I would take that risk. I’d only have a problem if he sat out regular season games.
Again, that's fair cause like you said, is it a voluntary workout. Just saying I don't get all the extra credit for him showing up. They're not even tackling.

You make it seem like the player is doing this for free and isn't under contact?

I get a kick out of things like this. In what other profession, outside of sports can, you do your job and then not show up to your place of employment "while under contract" because you "did your job" and now demand more compensation?

That contract only means he won't get paid if he doesn't show up and that he can't go play on another team. That's it. People get hung up on the term "contract" as if it's any more binding than that.

Exactly what I've been trying to say the whole thread. If playing football is too much risk then don't play football. Nobody's putting a gun to their head to do it.

Pretty much every other entertainer job. Every union-organized job. Probably not Joe Blow at Generic Office Job, Inc., but they're typically easily replaceable, unlike the previously mentioned.

Wait..let me stop laughing...so those entities you mention go on strike and demand more for "meeting" expectations? You make it sound like X was some 7th round pick that highly over performed. The guy was a damn 2nd round pick #7! Almost a 1st rounder.

Seriously. Don't these assholes know they're here to entertain me?! I mean, do they really think that just because they worked their asses off far harder than most of us ever have to get where they are entitles them to the most compensation they can get?! They're lucky they're compensated at all for their hard work.

Let’s keep our best defensive player that we DRAFTED and sign him to a FAIR long-term deal.

Is that too much to ask, or does it just make too much sense?

Do you think X is interested in fair, or getting the most he can? As I would do also, I would want as much as possible, anyone would. So does that mean 15 m/year??

Yes, for meeting and exceeding expectations. They demand better pay, benefits, job security, and better safety standards.

Hey @Bumpus , how dare you seek better compensation when you went on strike! You were under contract, or whatever.

Curious? Has "X" the employee in this case worked "through" his contract? Does he still have time on it? If so, then how has he met his contractual obligation?

Lol at 'fans' still being mad at players wanted to get paid what the market dictates. its even funnier when these 'fans' bring up other professions like its the same. What other professions have a shelf life averaging 4 years? What other profession puts their body on the line, and oh yea, while putting their body on the line, get injured and never see another contract a day in their life. I wish X would of held out. Pay the dude. 1 year contracts in the NFL are jokes.

I don't have a problem with a player wanting to get paid and i applaud X's camp for how they're handling things. He's showing up to work like he's expected to and doing his job.

If a player that's still under contract, demand I pay them more and then sat out etc. I promise you that player will be sitting out for a very long time.
