Balage Ready To Compete

Ballage will be our backup but he will get his chance when the oft injured Kenyon Drake goes down. I see a lot of potential in Ballage, specially compared to Tankersley and Gesicki.

Oh so he didn't get injured in these last 3 years? He didnt get injured all the time in college? We didnt draft him after a serious injury and surgery.

"Hey guys, this guy hasnt missed a game in 3 years!!! You know what that means?! He will never miss another game again in his career and we can wipe away all of his medical history."

Yeah... No. His history supports my statement... His recent history doesnt but we all know that RB's degrade faster than any other position in the nfl because of the physical pounding they take.

I commend Drake for staying healthy but he is injury prone, he just hasnt been held out of a game lately.

The two of them should be splitting carries and our running game will be solid again. Both these guys can go to the house any time they touch the ball. Same for Grant,Wilson,Stills so we should still have some exciting plays this season
They can both take it to the house, but neither has been proficient at pass pro. I dont know if it's been a coaching issue, or what, but whichever one picks that part of the position up, will likely see a lot of carries.

Fine, then, since you're going to completely twist what I say, let's get into it.

What did you mean by "...he'll get his chance when the oft injured Kenyon [sic] Drake goes down?" Because that certainly leads one to believe that you're suggesting he's going to miss games. And you can make up things that I didn't say all you want...but that's what you said, specifically.

Now...did you mean:

  • He's going to be healthy, but not used properly in games by a completely different coaching staff for some unknown reason?
  • He's going to have an injured shoulder, and have his time limited, but still rip off the occasional great performance like he's done before?
  • He's going to have some recurrence of the broken leg he suffered in college...four and a half years ago...which he has shown no ill-effects of since?
  • He's somehow going to somehow degrade faster than the other RB in the NFL, even though he was used less?
  • Or something else?
Please enlighten me. Or...you know...make up more stuff that I didn't say...because that was entertaining.

At the very least... "Are you not entertained!?"

I know you didnt say that but it seemed as if you were implying them.

What I meant is that I totally expect Drake to miss a game or get hurt during this season or the next and Ballage will fill in capably in his absence. Nothing more... Nothing less... What I said was for mere dramatic affect... Nothing more.

I think Drake is the better back at this point in their careers and hope both of them will make a great 1, 2, punch in the years to come.

Understood, agreed, and thanks.

I will certainly say that I believe Drake has been given a label of injury-prone that he doesn't deserve. He's gotten nicked up, but I don't think dramatically more than any NFL back. He's never been used as a workhorse back, and I don't think that the new offense will call for that, either. I'd absolutely love to get another bruising FB/RB to hammer away at D-Lines for a couple quarters...someone like Jeremy Cox from ODU or Ozigbo out of Nebraska

That's a good point about the pass pro. Some RB's never get good at it and that's why you don't see them out there more often on 3rd down. Inorder to catch the ball the QB can't get sacked.

That pesky "he had some injuries in college so let's keep the injury prone tag firmly attached regardless of what actually happens for years" narrative!

Some guys are different than others in that sense and are able to shrug off the injury bug but it is more common that most players remain injury prone due to the physicality of the game.

No narrative here other than clear observations. Hopefully Drake does prove that to be the case but I wont hold my breath as he did get injured last year he just didn't miss any games.

What he weight at the combine is irrelevant to weight gain.

Nope. Not sure where you are getting that from. Unless you think he didn’t come to the combine at the weight at the time that he could test best at.

Like others have said he’s gonna drop 5 lbs in that Miami heat in camp and preseason anyways. So if he’s say 252 now probably play closer to 247 range whereas last year I can buy that he played 242ish

Hes not retesting though. What he did and what he weighted during testing means nothing. What weight did he play at? How did he play. Combine and draft is over for him. Means nothing.

I totally disagree with that. Bottom line for me is I don’t buy that’s he’s playing 13 lbs heavier than he did last year unless he’s carrying bad weight on that frame.

We will see in tbe preseason. In pads.
